Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator

Roles and Responsibilities

• Liaising with parents and other professionals in respect of children with special educational needs (SEN)
• Advising and supporting other practitioners in the setting on Special Educational Needs
• Ensuring that Individual Education Plans are in place for children who have Special Educational needs
• Ensuring that relevant background information about individual children with special educational needs is collected, recorded and updated
• Review childrens profiles for those who have SEN
• Observe and support children as appropriate on the special educational needs profile
• Support and advise primary caregivers, and other teaching staff etc. as appropriate, in how to include children’s needs in the setting
• Liaise with settings on children’s assessments in consultation with the family
• Liaise with other professionals from outside services and external agencies e.g. Area SENCOs, Team Teachers, psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, etc
• Arrange, organise and review support for individual children
• Keep primary caregivers and other teaching staff up to date with SEN. and inclusion issues and to encourage personal development through courses and internal training
• To meet with parents regularly in order to maintain good relationships, keeping them informed about their child’s progress.

Desired Candidate Profile

• 1-3 years of experience working with children aged 5-12 years old.
  
• Strong understanding of pedagogy principles applied to early childhood education settings.
  
• Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people including parents, teachers, and other professionals.
  
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration and reporting purposes.
