Position: Sp3d Administrator
Job Description:
Qualification: Diploma B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
Experience:5-8 years of relevant experience in Piping Design / 3D Modelling with Engineering / EPC companies involved in Oil & Gas, Refinery, Petrochemical, Chemical, Fertilizer, Power, Energy, and related industries.
Software Proficiency: Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in Intergraph Smart 3D (SP3D). Knowledge of MicroStation, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and MS Office is preferred.
Responsibilities:

1. Prepare and develop 3D piping models using SP3D in accordance with project specifications, P&IDs, piping classes, design basis, and engineering standards.
2. Develop accurate pipe routing, equipment connections, valves, fittings, specialty items, and piping components in the SP3D model.
3. Interpret and work from P&IDs, Plot Plans, Equipment Layouts, Piping GA Drawings, Vendor Drawings, Line Lists, Piping Specifications, and other engineering documents.
4. Develop piping layouts considering:
• Process requirements
• Equipment accessibility
• Operation and maintenance requirements
• Safety requirements
• Construction requirements
• Piping flexibility
• Support requirements
• Drain and vent requirements.
5. Model and incorporate equipment, structures, platforms, pipe racks, supports, valves, instruments, and other relevant components as required for effective 3D coordination.
6. Ensure correct application of piping specifications, material classes, component selection, rating, size, schedule, and material requirements in the SP3D model.
7. Coordinate with Process, Mechanical, Civil & Structural, Instrumentation, Electrical, and Stress Engineering disciplines to resolve interface issues.
8. Incorporate inputs from Piping Stress Engineers and ensure routing and support arrangements are suitable for stress requirements.
9. Prepare and update 3D models based on engineering comments, design changes, vendor information, and interdisciplinary review comments.
10. Perform regular 3D model checking and clash detection and resolve identified clashes and modelling issues.
11. Participate in 3D Model Reviews / Interdisciplinary Model Reviews and incorporate comments within the agreed schedule.
12. Generate and extract piping deliverables from SP3D, including:

• Piping Isometric Drawings
• General Arrangement Drawings
• Piping Layouts
• MTO/BOM
• Material Take-Off
• Spool Drawings, where applicable.

1. Ensure piping isometrics are complete and accurate, including dimensions, coordinates, elevations, welds, supports, insulation, painting requirements, BOM, and fabrication information.
2. Ensure traceability between the 3D model, P&IDs, line list, isometrics, and MTO.
3. Incorporate vendor drawings and equipment nozzle information into the SP3D model and ensure correct interface with piping.
4. Develop and modify piping supports in coordination with Piping Stress and Structural Engineering requirements.
5. Check pipe routing for constructability, accessibility, maintenance clearance, operation, safety, and ease of fabrication/erection.
6. Identify discrepancies between P&IDs, piping specifications, equipment drawings, vendor documents, and 3D models, and raise technical queries for resolution.
7. Maintain proper model discipline, naming conventions, reference models, project databases, and SP3D modelling standards.
8. Ensure all modelling activities comply with project procedures, client standards, piping design criteria, and applicable codes and specifications.
9. Support the Lead Piping Engineer in model reviews, progress monitoring, quantity extraction, and deliverable preparation.
10. Coordinate with other designers and engineers to ensure consistent and clash-free modelling across the project.
11. Maintain model quality and ensure timely completion of assigned areas, units, lines, and deliverables as per project schedule.
12. Review and incorporate IDC/IDR comments, client comments, PMC comments, and engineering review comments.
13. Provide support during construction, fabrication, site queries, and as-built updates, where required.

Required Skills & Competencies

1. Strong hands-on experience in Intergraph Smart 3D (SP3D) for piping modelling and design.
2. Good understanding of piping components, fittings, valves, flanges, specialties, piping materials, ratings, and specifications.
3. Good knowledge of plant layout principles, pipe routing, equipment orientation, pipe racks, and utility systems.
4. Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, equipment drawings, plot plans, piping layouts, isometrics, and vendor drawings.
5. Good understanding of piping design requirements, including:
• Valve accessibility
• Maintenance clearance
• Equipment access
• Drains and vents
• Slope requirements
• Pipe support arrangements
• Operating requirements
• Construction/erection requirements.
6. Knowledge of piping support modelling and ability to incorporate stress-engineering requirements.
7. Experience in SP3D model review, clash checking, and model coordination.
8. Good knowledge of isometric extraction, MTO/BOM generation, and piping deliverable checking.
9. Ability to work with minimal supervision and deliver assigned work within project schedules.
10. Strong attention to detail and ability to identify modelling errors, interface issues, and inconsistencies.
11. Good communication and coordination skills for working in a multidisciplinary engineering team.
12. Knowledge of MicroStation, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and MS Office will be an added advantage.
