About this role
The Solar PV Design & Drafting Engineer will be responsible for preparing engineering layouts, drawings, and design deliverables for utility-scale solar PV projects during development, detailed engineering, and construction phases. The role involves coordination with civil, electrical, structural, and project engineering teams to ensure timely and high-quality project design across the portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Prepare engineering drawings and documentation in accordance with project schedules.
- Ensure engineering deliverables meet quality standards and comply with departmental procedures and design guidelines.
- Use custom software tools to design ground-mounted PV system layouts
- Prepare DC and AC electrical layouts for utility-scale solar PV plants.
- Support preliminary and detailed engineering activities.
- Perform quantity take-offs (QTO) and prepare Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Coordinate with civil, structural, and electrical engineering teams.
- Perform accurate system sizing calculations
- Create electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules, or connection diagrams for electric systems, using computer-aided design (CAD) software
- Generate construction drawing packages/sketches/as-builts using CAD software
- Create general arrangement drawings, section, elevation drawings and construction details
- Maintain drawing templates and libraries.
- Maintain drawing register, document revisions and engineering records in line with company procedures.
- Perform other responsibilities as necessary to support the successful completion of projects
Functional skills & Job knowledge/experience
- Computer literate with good knowledge of MS-office & engineering tools.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Google Earth Pro.
Working knowledge of PVcase, Civil 3D, Helios 3D and SketchUp.
Exposure to PVSyst will be an added advantage. - Familiarity with applicable engineering standards including IS, IEC, IEEE, ANSI, NEC, BS and utility-specific requirements. Knowledge of applicable safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Detailed knowledge of solar system design, and different configuration and optimization methodologies
- Prepare PV plant related Array layout, Grading layout, Cable routing layout, equipment layout, Earthing and Lightning protection systems, & etc.
- Preparation of Equipment Layouts, Single Line Diagrams (SLD), Protection Schemes, and General Arrangement (GA) Drawings for Substations and Solar PV Plants.
- Good Knowledge on preparation of quantity estimation and BOM.
- Preparation of cable schedules and drum schedules.
- Understanding and Preparation of technical specifications and review of tender specifications.
- Understanding of Sizing/selection of PV module, SCB, Transformer, Inverter, MV/LV switchgear/CRP Panel, Cable, Bus Bar/Duct, DG, UPS, Battery/Battery charger etc.
- Understanding of Cut & Fill Analysis, Grading Design, Storm Water Drainage Design, Access Roads, Fence and Associated Civil Infrastructure for Solar PV Plants
- Understanding of Manufacturers / Vendor / Subcontractors Drawings & Documentations.
- Strong understanding of general math, trigonometry, and geometry
- General understanding of both electrical and mechanical concepts
- Knowledge of drafting symbols and abbreviations.
Qualifications
- Diploma / BE / B.Tech in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent discipline from a recognized institution.
- 2-3 years of experience in utility-scale solar PV projects, with at least 1 year of hands-on experience in PV plant design and drafting.
- Experience in international solar projects will be an added advantage.
