About the Job: We are seeking an API and Middleware Engineer II to contribute to the delivery of API and middleware engineering features within Tonik’s platform engineering function. In this mid-level role, you will implement Kong Gateway configurations, WSO2 integrations, and REST API features with solid technical foundations. The ideal candidate is growing their expertise in OAuth2/JWT security and API design patterns under the guidance of Senior and Lead engineers, and is eager to take on increasing ownership over time.

Job Responsibilities:

• API and Middleware Feature Implementation: Implement API features, gateway configurations, and middleware integrations from technical specifications. Deliver well-tested, production-ready code with guidance from Senior and Lead engineers.
• Kong Gateway Configuration: Configure Kong API proxies, apply rate limiting and authentication rules (OAuth2, JWT), and support traffic management setups. Assist in Kong Kubernetes deployment tasks.
• WSO2 Implementation Support: Implement WSO2 mediation sequences and API lifecycle configurations. Support ESB integration tasks and data transformation implementations under Senior engineer guidance.
• REST API Implementation: Implement REST APIs following OpenAPI/Swagger specifications and established API design standards. Support API versioning and documentation tasks.
• API Security Implementation: Implement OAuth2 flows and JWT validation patterns as directed. Support API security testing activities and apply security fixes under guidance.
• Quality and Collaboration: Write unit and integration tests for API and middleware code. Participate in code reviews, sprint ceremonies, and technical discussions within the squad.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
• 4–6 years of software engineering with API or middleware development exposure.
• Working experience with Kong Gateway: basic API proxy configuration, rate limiting, authentication basics.
• Working experience with WSO2 API Manager: API lifecycle, basic mediation sequences.
• Good understanding of REST API design and OpenAPI/Swagger.
• Familiarity with OAuth2 and JWT concepts.
• Exposure to Docker/Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
• Exposure to AI Tools and Eagerness to learn and adapt to AI
• Exposure to digital banking or fintech environments is a plus.
