About this role
The early-career Software Engineer at Zingly helps build, configure, test, and launch voice and digital agents on the Zingly platform. Working alongside experienced engineers and implementation teammates, this person translates customer business workflows into agent behaviour, connects enterprise systems, and develops application code, prompts, conversation flows, and APIs needed for complete end-to-end AI solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Discovery and Requirements: Participate in customer discovery sessions, document requirements, and map business processes into agent workflows.
- Agent Design and Configuration: Configure voice and digital agents, including system prompts, conversation flows, decision logic, and human escalation patterns.
- Custom Code and Extensions: Write application code, integrations, and workflow extensions with guidance from senior engineering staff.
- System and API Integration: Connect agents to enterprise CRMs, helpdesks, and backend services using REST APIs, webhooks, and platform configurations.
- API Testing and Troubleshooting: Test API endpoints, inspect JSON responses, and troubleshoot integration issues using tools such as Postman.
- Conversation Simulation and Handoffs: Simulate conversations and validate edge cases, failed API calls, and human agent handoffs before launch.
- Multichannel Deployment: Deploy agent implementations across voice, chat, SMS, and email channels.
- Monitoring and Optimisation: Monitor production agent behaviour and continuously optimise prompts and codebase post-launch.
- Technical Documentation and Reporting: Maintain technical documentation, report build progress, and proactively surface technical blockers.
- AI-Accelerated Development: Leverage modern AI coding tools to accelerate development while ensuring security and code quality.
Requirements:
- Programming Foundations: Foundational programming skills in a language such as Python, TypeScript, Java, Go, or Rust.
- Application and Integration Experience: Experience building a working application or integration through coursework, internships, personal projects, or open-source work.
- Web and Software Concepts: Basic understanding of Web APIs, HTTP, JSON format, databases, Git version control, and software testing principles.
- LLM and AI Experimentation: Hands-on experimentation with LLMs, prompt structuring, or AI agent development beyond standard chatbot usage.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate technical status to diverse audiences.
- Troubleshooting Approach: Methodical approach to technical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for unfamiliar problems.
- Feedback and Delivery Mindset: Openness to constructive feedback, attention to detail, and accountability for delivery outcomes.
Preferred experience:
- Frontend Development: Frontend development experience with TypeScript and modern frameworks (e. g., React).
- Backend Development: Backend development using Python, Node.js, or Java/Spring.
- Agent Frameworks and RAG: Familiarity with agent frameworks, tool calling, structured outputs, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
- CRM Integrations: Integrations with CRM platforms such as Salesforce or HubSpot.
- Developer Tools and Cloud: Hands-on experience with Postman, webhooks, SQL querying, and cloud service deployments.
- Conversational AI Workflows: Building conversational AI workflows, voice agents, or interactive chatbots.
- AI Tooling: Utilising AI-assisted development tooling like Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot.
