About this role
About Nayanic
Nayanic builds software that transforms how healthcare is delivered and managed. We focus on reliable, scalable technology that helps clinicians and health organizations streamline workflows and improve patient outcomes.
Our work sits at the intersection of engineering and clinical reality — interoperability, imaging, and the systems that keep hospitals running. It's a collaborative, innovation-driven environment where technical talent can grow while contributing to meaningful change in the health sector.
About the Role
As an Associate Software Engineer, you'll work with cross-functional teams to design, build, and maintain the backend services behind our healthcare applications. This is a hands-on engineering role with real ownership from early on — you'll be designing APIs and data models, not just closing tickets.
You'll also get exposure to the AI/ML side of our products, integrating LLM-powered features and helping move models from prototype into production.
What You'll Do
- Design and implement REST APIs — resource modelling, versioning, error contracts, authentication
- Model and query data in PostgreSQL, and keep it fast as the data grows
- Write clean, tested, maintainable Python and participate in constructive code reviews
- Integrate internal and third-party APIs, and optimize system performance
- Ensure software meets the security and compliance requirements of the health industry
- Contribute to LLM-powered features: retrieval pipelines, structured outputs, inference services
- Document technical decisions and help improve our development practices and tooling
What We're Looking For
- 6 months to 2 years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong CS foundation — data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles
- Proficiency in Python, with production experience in FastAPI or Django (Django REST Framework counts)
- Ability to design REST APIs, not just implement them: resource modelling, versioning, pagination, idempotency, error contracts, and auth patterns (OAuth2 / JWT). Familiarity with OpenAPI/Swagger
- Solid PostgreSQL skills — schema design, normalization and when to denormalize, indexing, transactions, and reading a query plan to find out why something is slow. Experience with an ORM (SQLAlchemy or Django ORM) and with migrations
- Strong grasp of OOP and the SOLID principles, with the judgment to apply them pragmatically — clear separation of concerns, dependency injection, and code that's testable by construction rather than by afterthought
- Familiarity with common design patterns (repository, service layer, factory, strategy) and the trade-offs each carries
- Experience writing automated tests (pytest or unittest) alongside features
- Comfortable working with AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) — and able to critically review their output rather than accept it uncritically
- Familiarity with Git and collaborative workflows: branching, pull requests, CI
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a remote team
Good to Have
- Working knowledge of ML fundamentals — supervised learning, train/validation/test methodology, and how to read precision/recall and ROC-AUC rather than accuracy alone
- Hands-on experience with the Python ML stack: NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn. Exposure to PyTorch or TensorFlow is a plus
- Practical experience building with LLM APIs — prompt design, structured/JSON outputs, function calling, retrieval-augmented generation with a vector store
- Understanding of what it takes to move a model from notebook to service: inference endpoints, latency and cost trade-offs, versioning, monitoring for drift
- Awareness of responsible AI practice in healthcare — data privacy and de-identification, dataset bias, model limitations, and the need for clinician oversight of AI-assisted output
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud platforms (Azure / AWS)
- Exposure to healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR, DICOM) or to regulated environments (HIPAA, GDPR)
- Experience with medical imaging data, NLP on clinical text, or ML applied to clinical datasets
You don't need to tick every box. If you're strong on Python and API design and genuinely curious about healthcare, we'd like to hear from you.
Why Join Us
- Real ownership early — you'll design systems, not just maintain them
- Work that matters: the software you write supports clinical care
- Remote-first, with a small team that reviews carefully and ships regularly
- Room to grow into AI/ML, interoperability, or platform engineering depending on where your interest pulls you
How to Apply
Apply through LinkedIn with your CV. If you have a GitHub profile, a project you're proud of, or anything you've built and shipped, include it — we read those closely.
Nayanic is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds.
