Software Engineer (PHP + React)

About the role

Join a small, high-impact team building and enhancing a modern web application used by customers globally. You'll work directly with an Australia-based team to develop new features, improve existing functionality, and contribute to the evolution of the platform.

This is an opportunity to work in a collaborative product engineering environment where you'll have ownership of features and the freedom to contribute ideas that shape the product.

What you'll do

• Own features from specification through to production.
• Build and maintain web applications using PHP (Laravel) and React.js.
• Develop and integrate REST APIs and backend services.
• Build responsive, reusable, and maintainable frontend components using React.
• Design and optimise database schemas and queries (MySQL/PostgreSQL).
• Write clean, tested, and maintainable code following best practices.
• Participate in code reviews and collaborate closely with the engineering team.
• Work with senior engineers to deliver high-quality software and continuously improve development practices.

What we're looking for

• 3-6 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong experience with PHP (Laravel preferred).
• Strong frontend experience with React.js.
• Good understanding of JavaScript (ES6+) and modern frontend development.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs.
• Experience working with relational databases (MySQL or PostgreSQL).
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Exposure to cloud deployments (AWS or similar) is preferred.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote team.

Nice to have

• Experience with Next.js or TypeScript.
• Familiarity with Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Redis, queues, or caching.
• Knowledge of microservices or event-driven architectures.
• Experience working on SaaS or product-based applications.
• Exposure to payment gateway integrations or third-party API integrations.
