Job Description

Role: Software Engineer - Backend & AI Experience: 4+ Years

Role Summary The Software Engineer (Backend & AI) builds and maintains the API and integration layer of the AI CoE. This includes REST APIs that expose AI capabilities, tool backends that AI agents call, database schemas, and integrations with enterprise systems. The role requires backend engineering skills plus working ability to consume and integrate LLM APIs.

Responsibilities

• Build FastAPI microservices that expose RAG, agent and ML capabilities as REST endpoints
• Build tool APIs used by AI agents — functions that search, retrieve, create, update or integrate with external systems
• Integrate with enterprise systems — SharePoint, document management systems, ERP, databases
• Design and manage database schemas (PostgreSQL, MongoDB) for AI product features
• Implement authentication and authorisation for AI services
• Handle async patterns — background tasks, queuing, high-throughput API serving

Required Skills

• Python — production-quality. Code is structured, tested, handles exceptions.
• FastAPI — has built and shipped REST APIs. Understands request lifecycle, validation, middleware, error responses.
• SQL — writes complex queries confidently. Understands indexing, transactions, query performance.
• Git and Docker — standard workflow, containerised services.
• LLM API consumption — can call OpenAI or Anthropic APIs, handle streaming and manage token limits. Does not need to design AI systems, needs to integrate them.
