Software Engineer | $40 - $75/hr

Role Description

We are seeking experienced Software Engineers to contribute to advanced AI-focused backend engineering projects. In this role, you will apply your software development expertise to solve real-world programming challenges, review production-quality code, and provide technical insights that help improve next-generation AI systems. This is a fully remote contract opportunity for engineers with strong backend development experience in Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, or similar technologies. Candidates with a background in Cybersecurity or SecOps are highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services for real-world engineering environments.
• Develop scalable backend applications using Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, Python, or similar technologies.
• Write comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure software quality and reliability.
• Review code for correctness, performance, maintainability, and security while providing constructive technical feedback.
• Solve backend programming challenges and clearly document engineering decisions and technical reasoning.
• Identify opportunities to improve code quality, performance, and security.
• Collaborate effectively with distributed teams in an asynchronous remote environment.
• Contribute technical expertise to projects focused on AI model evaluation and backend software development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• Strong experience in backend software development using

Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, Python , or similar technologies.

• Experience designing and building scalable backend systems, APIs, and microservices.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, clean code, and system design.
• Experience with automated testing, debugging, and performance optimization.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote, collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in Cybersecurity or SecOps.
• Hands-on experience with secure coding practices, application security, penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, or security-focused code reviews.
• Familiarity with security standards such as

OWASP and

CWE .

• Experience working on AI, machine learning, or large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience contributing to technical documentation and engineering best practices.
