Software Development Engineer IV - Fullstack (SDE 4)

Key Responsibilities

Technical Strategy & Architecture

• Define and own the overall technical architecture for fullstack systems including backend services, frontend platforms, databases, and infrastructure.
• Lead the adoption of microservices architecture, event-driven design patterns, and distributed systems principles across the engineering organization.
• Drive architecture review boards and ensure all major technical decisions are aligned with long-term platform goals.
• Establish and enforce engineering standards, design patterns, and best practices across multiple squads.
• Evaluate and introduce new technologies, frameworks, and tools where they add strategic value.

Backend & Distributed Systems

• Architect and oversee development of complex, high-performance Python (Django/FastAPI) backend services at million-plus user scale.
• Design distributed systems with a strong focus on consistency, availability, partition tolerance, and fault tolerance.
• Lead the design and governance of event-driven architectures using Kafka for real-time data pipelines and messaging.
• Drive performance engineering including profiling, query optimization, caching strategies (Redis), and asynchronous processing (Celery).
• Own API design philosophy — RESTful and GraphQL — ensuring APIs are consistent, versioned, and developer-friendly. Database Architecture & Optimization
• Define database architecture strategy across relational (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) systems.
• Drive advanced optimization: partitioning, sharding, replication, connection pooling, and caching layers.
• Establish data governance practices and ensure data quality, integrity, and lifecycle management.
• Oversee and review complex database migrations, schema evolution strategies, and zero-downtime deployment plans. Security, Compliance & Privacy
• Own and enforce authentication and authorization standards across the platform: OAuth2, JWT, RBAC, and fine-grained access control.
• Lead implementation of encryption standards for data at rest and in transit.
• Drive understanding and compliance around PII/data privacy requirements and the latest fintech regulatory compliance frameworks.
• Establish vulnerability management practices and dependency scanning protocols as part of the SDLC.
• Collaborate with security teams to perform threat modeling and risk mitigation. Cloud, DevOps & Reliability
• Architect and oversee cloud-native deployments on AWS or GCP using Kubernetes and Docker.
• Define SLAs, SLOs, and SLIs for platform reliability and drive observability initiatives including monitoring, alerting, and distributed tracing.
• Lead disaster recovery planning, high availability design, and incident response strategy.
• Oversee CI/CD pipeline strategy and ensure robust automated testing, deployment, and rollback mechanisms. Frontend Leadership
• Provide architectural guidance to frontend teams using React.js and Next.js.
• Define frontend performance standards, accessibility requirements, and design system governance.
• Ensure seamless and secure integration across frontend, backend, and mobile (React Native / Flutter) platforms. Team Leadership & Organizational Impact
• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of senior and mid-level engineers across backend, frontend, and DevOps.
• Drive hiring strategy, technical interviews, and onboarding for senior engineering talent.
• Work closely with the Engineering Manager and product leadership to align technical roadmap with business objectives.
• Build a strong engineering culture centered on ownership, innovation, continuous learning, and psychological safety. Eligibility / Qualification
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Expert-level proficiency in Python with Django and/or FastAPI.
• Deep experience with React.js and Next.js for large-scale frontend platforms.
• Advanced expertise in MySQL/PostgreSQL and MongoDB including architecture, performance tuning, and scaling.
• Strong command of microservices architecture, event-driven systems, and distributed systems design.
• Hands-on expertise with Kafka, Redis, Celery, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Deep knowledge of RESTful API and GraphQL design, versioning, and governance.
• Expert understanding of authentication and authorization: OAuth2, JWT, RBAC, and fine-grained access control.
• Strong knowledge of encryption technologies and security best practices for fintech systems.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code on AWS or GCP.
• Proven ability to lead and grow engineering teams in a fast-paced, high-scale environment. Experience Required
• 6–10 years of professional software engineering experience, with at least

2–3 years in a tech lead or engineering lead role managing senior engineers.
