Software Development Engineer III (React Native)

We are looking for a highly skilled and hands-on SDE 3 (React Native) to join our Consumer Mobile Engineering team. The ideal candidate will have strong production experience with React Native and will be capable of independently owning complex features, solving challenging technical problems, and contributing to the technical direction of the mobile application. This is a hands-on senior engineering role. We are looking for someone who can balance feature delivery with engineering quality, performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability. While React Native will be the primary area of ownership, exposure to web technologies such as React/Next.js and backend technologies such as Node.js/NestJS will be highly valuable for understanding and contributing to end-to-end product development.

The core responsibilities for the job include the following:

Technical and Feature Ownership:

• Own complex mobile features and technical initiatives from requirement analysis through production release.
• Translate product requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions.
• Break down complex problems into technical designs and implementation plans.
• Independently drive initiatives with minimal supervision.
• Identify technical risks and proactively address them.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Backend, Web, and QA teams.
• Take ownership of production issues and drive them through to resolution.
• Understand dependencies and interactions across mobile, web, and backend systems.

React Native and Mobile Engineering:

• Build scalable and high-performance applications using React Native and TypeScript.
• Demonstrate strong understanding of React Native architecture and application lifecycle.
• Design reusable components and scalable application patterns.
• Debug complex issues across the React Native and native platform boundary.
• Work with native iOS/Android capabilities when required.
• Evaluate libraries, frameworks, and technical approaches for mobile development.
• Contribute to technical architecture and design decisions.
• Establish and promote best practices across the mobile codebase.

Full-Stack and Cross-Platform Collaboration:

• Understand the end-to-end architecture of features spanning mobile, web, and backend systems.
• Collaborate effectively with web engineers working with React and Next.js.
• Collaborate with backend engineers working with Node.js/NestJS and REST APIs.
• Understand API contracts, authentication, data flow, and error handling across client and server.
• Participate in technical discussions involving frontend, backend, and mobile architecture.
• Where required, contribute small changes or debugging fixes outside the primary mobile codebase.
• Identify technical issues that span multiple layers and help drive them to resolution.

Performance and Reliability:

• Identify and resolve mobile performance bottlenecks.
• Improve areas such as application startup time, rendering performance, memory usage, and bundle size.
• Investigate production crashes, ANRs, and other reliability issues.
• Improve application stability and overall user experience.
• Use monitoring and crash analytics tools to identify and resolve production issues.
• Proactively identify areas that can impact application performance or reliability.

Engineering Excellence:

• Drive improvements in coding standards, testing, and engineering practices.
• Identify and proactively address technical debt.
• Improve development, debugging, and release workflows.
• Contribute to mobile CI/CD and release processes.
• Participate actively in code and design reviews.
• Establish reusable patterns and best practices across the mobile codebase.
• Contribute to improving developer experience and engineering productivity.

Mentoring and Technical Leadership:

• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
• Provide meaningful and constructive code-review feedback.
• Help engineers improve their technical problem-solving skills.
• Lead technical discussions within the team.
• Share knowledge through documentation, technical sessions, and design discussions.
• Act as a technical point of contact for complex React Native and mobile engineering problems.
• Help establish engineering standards and best practices within the team.

Requirements:

• 5-6 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with React Native in production applications.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Strong understanding of React fundamentals, architecture, and rendering.
• Strong understanding of mobile application architecture and lifecycle.
• Experience designing and implementing complex mobile features.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Experience troubleshooting production issues.
• Good understanding of REST APIs, networking, and asynchronous programming.
• Experience with automated testing.
• Strong understanding of Git and modern software development workflows.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Primary Technology: React Native, TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Mobile Architecture.
• Preferred Additional Technologies: Next.js, Node.js, NestJS, iOS, Android, CI/CD, Observability.

The core goods to have for the job include the following:

Web Development:

• Hands-on experience with React.js.
• Experience with Next.js.
• Understanding of modern web application architecture.
• Experience working with server-side rendering, routing, caching, or web performance is a plus.
• Ability to understand and debug issues across web and mobile applications.

Backend Development:

• Experience or strong exposure to Node.js.
• Experience with NestJS or similar backend frameworks.

• Understanding of authentication, authorization, caching, and database interactions.

Native Mobile Development:

• Good understanding of at least one native mobile platform.
• Experience with iOS / Swift / Objective-C or Android / Kotlin / Java.
• Experience with native modules and platform APIs.
• Understanding of native build systems and dependencies.
• Experience with app lifecycle, push notifications, deep linking, and permissions.
• Platform-specific debugging experience.

Performance and Observability:

• Experience with React Native performance optimization, rendering and UI performance, memory optimization, application startup optimization, crash and ANR analysis, network performance, and bundle size optimization.
• Production monitoring and observability.
• Experience with Sentry, Firebase Crashlytics, or similar tools is a plus.

CI/CD and Release:

• Understanding of mobile CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with automated build, testing, and deployment workflows.
• Understanding of iOS and Android release processes.
• Experience with App Store and Google Play release workflows.
• Familiarity with GitHub Actions, Bitrise, EAS, or equivalent CI/CD platforms is a plus.
