About this role
We're looking for an experienced Backend Engineer (SDE 3) with 6+ years of experience in Java and distributed systems to help build and scale our AI-powered platform. This role goes beyond traditional backend development. You'll leverage modern AI coding agents to accelerate software development, improve engineering productivity, and build scalable backend systems while leading technical initiatives across teams.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and scale backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices.
- Own APIs, business logic, data models, and integrations end-to-end.
- Drive High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD) for new services.
- Build highly scalable, reliable, and performant distributed systems.
- Integrate AI-powered development workflows across design, implementation, testing, code reviews, and production monitoring.
- Improve engineering productivity through automation and agentic SDLC practices.
- Define engineering best practices, code quality standards, and review processes.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across teams.
- Collaborate closely with Product, AI/ML, and Engineering teams.
Requirements:
- 6+ years of backend development experience.
- Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and Hibernate/JPA.
- Hands-on experience with Microservices Architecture.
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, distributed systems, and scalable backend design.
- Experience designing production-grade systems (HLD & LLD).
- Strong knowledge of Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and cloud-native development.
- Experience using AI developer tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Devin, Aider, or similar.
- Understanding of AI-assisted software development workflows.
- Excellent problem-solving and technical leadership skills.
Good to Have:
- Experience building custom AI agents or MCP integrations.
- Prompt engineering and repository-level AI workflows.
- Experience with LLM evaluation frameworks.
- Observability tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, or New Relic.
- PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Neo4j.
- AWS or GCP.
- Python scripting.
- Healthcare, FHIR/HL7 or Medical Coding domain experience.
