Software Architect – MERN / Node.js | Healthcare & Payments Platforms

Work mode: Hybrid About The Role Techdome is hiring a Software Architect / Technical Architect to own the end-to-end architecture of our healthcare (HIPAA) and payments (PCI-DSS) platforms. This is a hands-on architecture role — you design the systems and stay close to the code, accountable for how your architecture performs in production where real patient data (PHI) and real money move through it. You'll set the technical standard for an 80+ engineer studio and defend it — in design reviews, PRs, incident retros, and in front of clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Own platform architecture: system design, service boundaries, data modeling, API contracts, and NFRs (security, scalability, observability, cost)
• Design HIPAA-grade and PCI-aware systems: PHI handling, audit logging, access controls, encryption at rest/in transit, tokenization and segregation of payment data
• Architect on the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js) plus cloud infrastructure: containers, Kubernetes/orchestration, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, secrets management
• Drive high-stakes technical decisions: build vs. buy, monolith vs. microservices, sync vs. event-driven, third-party integration choices
• Define engineering standards: code review practices, reference architectures, reusable patterns
• Design AI-native systems — our engineers ship daily with Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and Cursor
• Mentor senior engineers into tech leads through influence and demonstrated judgment

Must-Have Skills

• 6+ years building production software, including ownership of system design end to end (architect, principal engineer, or staff engineer level)
• Strong hands-on Node.js and React — able to architect and code without a handoff (MERN preferred; strong Node.js full-stack considered)
• Cloud architecture on AWS, GCP, or Azure — networking, security, scaling, cost optimization
• Experience designing systems in a regulated or high-stakes domain: healthcare (HIPAA/PHI), payments (PCI-DSS), fintech, banking, or insurance — or demonstrable depth in security-critical system design
• Strong communication — able to defend architectural decisions with evidence and bring teams along

Good To Have

• HIPAA / healthcare compliance in production (audit trails, BAA-covered infra, PHI access controls)
• Payment systems: Stripe, Braintree, tokenization, reconciliation, PCI-DSS environments
• Event-driven architecture, microservices, high-availability design
• Multi-product, consulting, or venture-studio experience
• AI-assisted development practice and opinions on how AI changes architecture
