ServiceNow Event Management Engineer / Developer

We are looking for an experienced ServiceNow Event Management Engineer / Developer to design, develop, integrate, and optimize ServiceNow Event Management capabilities within the IT Operations Management (ITOM) suite.

The candidate will be responsible for event ingestion, alert correlation, event processing, noise reduction, automation, and integration with enterprise monitoring and observability platforms. The role requires strong technical expertise in ServiceNow Event Management, JavaScript, Glide API, REST/SOAP integrations, MID Server, and monitoring technologies.

The ideal candidate will collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, network, application, SRE, and operations teams to transform monitoring events into actionable alerts, improve root-cause identification, reduce alert fatigue, and enable proactive incident management through automation and AIOps capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Event Management Engineering and Development

• Design, configure, develop, and enhance ServiceNow Event Management solutions.
• Configure event rules, alert rules, event processing, deduplication, suppression, prioritization, enrichment, normalization, and remapping.
• Develop alert correlation logic to reduce duplicate alerts and support root-cause analysis (RCA).
• Implement event processing logic using JavaScript, Glide API, Flow Designer, and IntegrationHub.
• Develop automated workflows for alert grouping, event reduction, alert routing, and incident creation.
• Ensure effective mapping of events and alerts to Configuration Items (CIs), applications, and infrastructure components.

Monitoring and Tool Integrations

• Integrate ServiceNow Event Management with enterprise monitoring and observability platforms, including Dynatrace, Datadog, AppDynamics, SolarWinds, Splunk, SCOM, Nagios, AWS CloudWatch, and Azure Monitor.
• Develop and maintain event ingestion mechanisms using MID Servers, REST/SOAP APIs, webhooks, event connectors, and custom integration scripts.
• Troubleshoot integration issues and validate event payloads, data mappings, and processing flows.
• Ensure reliable event ingestion, accurate CI identification, and end-to-end monitoring visibility.
• Collaborate with monitoring teams to onboard new event sources and improve integration quality.

Automation and Remediation Development

• Design and implement automated remediation workflows using Flow Designer, IntegrationHub, ServiceNow Orchestration, and MID Server capabilities.
• Develop event-driven runbooks and playbooks to reduce manual operational activities.
• Integrate automated responses with DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and IT Operations processes.
• Use PowerShell, Python, REST APIs, and other scripting technologies to support automation and remediation.
• Improve operational efficiency by automating repetitive incident response and infrastructure support tasks.

Event Noise Reduction, Optimization, and AIOps

• Analyze high-volume event streams, recurring alerts, and noisy monitoring sources.
• Develop and optimize event filtering, enrichment, deduplication, and correlation logic to reduce alert fatigue.
• Improve event ingestion performance and the overall efficiency of event processing.
• Collaborate with monitoring teams to optimize thresholds, metrics, and source configurations.
• Support AIOps capabilities, including event correlation, anomaly detection, predictive alerting, and machine-learning-assisted root-cause analysis.
• Help improve service reliability through actionable alerts, proactive monitoring, and reduced reactive incidents.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with cloud, infrastructure, network, security, and application teams to ensure end-to-end operational visibility.
• Partner with NOC, SRE, Incident Management, and Operations teams to optimize alert-to-incident workflows.
• Support Incident and Problem Management by providing correlated event data and root-cause traceability.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to validate event sources, define requirements, and implement effective monitoring solutions.

Documentation, Standards, and Governance

• Document event rules, alert correlation logic, integration flows, remediation workflows, and event-source onboarding procedures.
• Establish standards for event payload structures, naming conventions, CI alignment, and connector usage.
• Maintain technical documentation for configurations, scripts, integrations, and operational procedures.
• Support audit readiness, compliance requirements, operational reviews, and implementation standards.

Required Technical Skill Set

• Strong hands-on experience with ServiceNow ITOM and Event Management.
• Expertise in event rules, alert rules, event processing, deduplication, suppression, enrichment, and correlation.
• Strong JavaScript and ServiceNow Glide API scripting skills.
• Experience with Flow Designer, Integration Hub, and ServiceNow Orchestration.
• Hands-on experience with REST APIs, SOAP web services, webhooks, MID Servers, and event connectors.
• Knowledge of SNMP, MIBs, OIDs, SNMP traps, and network monitoring protocols.
• Experience integrating monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, Datadog, AppDynamics, Splunk, SolarWinds, SCOM, Nagios, AWS CloudWatch, or Azure Monitor.
• Understanding of Configuration Management Database (CMDB), Configuration Items (CIs), and application/infrastructure mapping.
• Knowledge of Windows, Linux, VMware, networking, and cloud monitoring across AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Ability to analyze logs, event streams, JSON payloads, and raw monitoring data for troubleshooting and optimization.
• Strong understanding of event-to-alert processing and alert-to-incident workflows.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• 5-8+ years of relevant experience in ServiceNow ITOM, Event Management, monitoring, or observability engineering.
• Proven experience implementing and customizing ServiceNow Event Management solutions.
• Hands-on experience integrating enterprise monitoring tools with ServiceNow.
• Experience designing event correlation rules, reducing event noise, and improving alert quality.
• Strong scripting and integration development capabilities.
• Understanding of IT Operations, infrastructure monitoring, incident response, and service reliability practices.
• Excellent communication, documentation, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA).
• Certified Implementation Specialist ITOM (CIS-ITOM).
• Certified Implementation Specialist – Event Management (CIS-Event Management), where applicable.
• Experience with AIOps, anomaly detection, predictive alerting, and machine-learning-assisted root-cause analysis.
• Familiarity with OpenTelemetry concepts and observability practices.
• Scripting experience with Python, PowerShell, Bash, regular expressions (Regex), JSON, YAML, and XML.
• Exposure to ServiceNow Discovery and Service Mapping.
• Experience with cloud-native monitoring and automated remediation frameworks.
