Senior UI/UX Designer

About the Role Unico Connect is an AI-first technology partner that builds custom mobile, web, and AI products for clients across multiple geographies. We are hiring a Senior UI/UX Designer who will lead design on a complex, interactive AI product, own its design system, and set the visual and interaction standards across the work. You will collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and AI engineers to turn ambiguous workflows into interfaces that users understand and trust. The mandatory requirement for this role is hands-on ownership of at least one production product that you designed end to end, covering research, information architecture, interaction, visual design, and design system contribution. The role is hands-on and senior. Expect to run user research, design and prototype complex interactions, ship and maintain a design system, mentor other designers, and partner closely with engineering on implementation fidelity. A typical week includes a research synthesis, a flow review with engineering, a design system audit, and a prototyping sprint on a new module.

Responsibilities ·

Product design end to end: Own design for the product from problem framing through shipping. Cover research, information architecture, interaction, visual, and engineering handoff. ·

Design systems and tokens: Build and maintain component libraries and design token systems that map cleanly to engineering implementation in React, Tailwind, or equivalent. ·

Interaction and prototyping: Design and prototype complex interactions including direct-manipulation editing, inline editing, real-time collaboration, AI-assisted flows where outputs are non-deterministic, and progressive disclosure for power features. ·

User research and validation: Run usability tests, interviews, and concept validations with target users. Synthesise findings into design decisions backed by evidence. ·

Engineering partnership: Pair closely with engineers on implementation. Review built UI for fidelity, flag deviations, and adapt designs where engineering constraints demand. ·

Accessibility: Design to WCAG 2.1 AA. Cover keyboard navigation, screen reader behaviour, contrast, and focus management as part of every flow. ·

Multi-persona design: Design for distinct personas within the same product (non-technical users, technical operators, enterprise admins) without losing coherence. ·

Mentorship and design standards: Mentor mid-level and junior designers, run critique, and raise the design bar across the team.

Requirements ·

Production product design ownership (mandatory). Must have personally designed at least one production product end to end (research through engineering handoff), with measurable user outcomes. Concept work and unshipped pitches do not qualify. ·

5+ years of hands-on product design experience. Portfolio must show shipped production work, not just concept pieces. ·

Figma at advanced level. Components, variants, auto-layout, tokens, branches, and a clean file structure. Comfortable owning a shared design system. ·

Design systems experience. Hands-on ownership of or contribution to a production design system. Understanding of how tokens, components, and patterns map to engineering implementation. ·

Interaction design depth. Strong instinct for direct manipulation, complex state, empty and error states, loading patterns, and AI-mediated interactions where outputs are non-deterministic. ·

Prototyping fluency. Comfortable building interactive prototypes in Figma, Framer, ProtoPie, or equivalent. Able to communicate motion and behaviour, not just static screens. ·

Accessibility fluency. WCAG 2.1 AA applied in shipped work. ·

Excellent written and spoken English. Able to present and defend design decisions in review and communicate with international clients. ·

Strong product instinct and ownership. Asks the right questions, frames problems clearly, prioritises ruthlessly, and pushes back where appropriate.

Nice to have: experience designing developer tools, editor-style products, or other complex interactive applications; motion design (Framer, Rive, Lottie); exposure to React component libraries (shadcn, Radix, MUI); prior agency experience.
