About this role
About the Role We are looking for a
Senior Software Engineer (5–8+ years experience) to join our team and take a lead role in architecting and building robust, scalable, and high-performance applications that power business-critical solutions — increasingly powered by AI agents and LLM-driven workflows. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in modern web technologies, a strong command of distributed systems architecture, and a track record of designing event-driven microservices at scale. Exposure to LLM providers (Anthropic, OpenAI) for building agentic systems and RAG pipelines is a strong plus, as we continue to weave AI-powered capabilities into our products. You will drive technical direction, set engineering standards, and mentor other engineers while designing systems that scale seamlessly in cloud-native environments. If you're passionate about modern software architecture, microservices, and cloud-first development — with an interest in agentic AI — you'll thrive at Ryewalk.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and build scalable applications using
Node.js, TypeScript, and
React , with a strong focus on performance, maintainability, and long-term technical health.
- Lead the design and development of microservices with event-driven architecture and asynchronous communication patterns, making key architectural decisions on service boundaries and trade-offs.
- Design and implement robust
APIs (REST/GraphQL), setting standards for error handling, validation, versioning, and documentation across teams.
- Own distributed systems design decisions involving
message queues (Kafka), databases (PostgreSQL), and caching layers (Redis), including capacity planning and failure-mode analysis.
- Contribute to (or lead, depending on experience) the design of
AI agentic workflows and RAG pipelines using LLM providers such as
Anthropic (Claude) and OpenAI , as these capabilities get built into our products.
- Partner with cross-functional teams and product stakeholders to shape technical roadmaps and deliver features from conception to production deployment.
- Drive deployment strategy and maintain applications in Kubernetes clusters, improving CI/CD automation and release practices.
- Lead performance optimization initiatives through profiling, monitoring, and database query optimization, identifying systemic bottlenecks before they become incidents.
- Set the bar for test coverage and quality, championing comprehensive testing strategies (unit, integration, e2e) across the team.
- Lead code reviews, mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and drive technical decision-making and architecture discussions.
- Act as a technical escalation point for complex production issues and cross-service design challenges. -
What We're Looking For Must-Have Skills
- 5–8+ years of software development experience with a demonstrated track record of owning systems end-to-end.
- Deep proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript, with strong command of async/await, promises, and the event loop internals.
- Extensive React experience including hooks, state management, component architecture, and performance optimization at scale.
- Strong database expertise with PostgreSQL, including query optimization and schema design.
- Proven API development experience with RESTful services, authentication, and data validation in production systems.
- Advanced Git proficiency and experience defining collaborative development workflows for a team.
- Strong grasp of software engineering principles including SOLID, design patterns, and clean code — with the judgment to know when to apply (or bend) them.
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction beyond your own codebase.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience building AI agentic systems, including working with LLM provider APIs (Anthropic Claude, OpenAI) for agent orchestration, tool/function calling, and multi-turn reasoning workflows.
- Practical experience building RAG systems — vector databases, embedding models, chunking/retrieval strategies, and prompt engineering for grounded responses.
- Familiarity with agent frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex, Anthropic's Agent SDK/MCP, OpenAI Assistants API, or custom-built orchestration layers).
- Experience with vector databases (pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate, Qdrant) and embedding/retrieval optimization.
- Python development experience for backend services or automation.
- Hands-on experience leading microservices architecture efforts, including service decomposition and inter-service communication design.
- Deep event-driven systems knowledge with message brokers like Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Redis experience for caching, session management, and real-time features at scale.
- Kubernetes deployment experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration, including cluster-level troubleshooting.
- AWS cloud services experience (EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, EKS), including cost and architecture trade-off decisions.
- Experience setting up monitoring and observability practices (OpenTelemetry, Grafana, logging frameworks) across a team or org.
What Makes You a Great Fit Architecture Mindset – You think beyond individual features to design scalable, maintainable systems, and can defend your design decisions under scrutiny.
AI-Curious & Pragmatic – You're open to exploring agentic AI and grounded enough to know when an LLM is the right tool and when it isn't.
Performance Conscious – You care about application performance, memory usage, and efficient algorithms, and know how to diagnose issues others miss.
Quality Focused – You write testable code, believe in comprehensive testing strategies, and hold others to the same standard.
Cloud Native – You understand modern deployment patterns and containerized applications deeply enough to make informed trade-offs.
Great Communicator & Mentor – You articulate technical concepts clearly, collaborate effectively across teams, and help others grow.
Tech Enthusiast – You're genuinely passionate about high-tech solutions and love exploring new technologies.
Fun to Work With – You bring positive energy and make work enjoyable while maintaining high standards.
Why Ryewalk? Technical Excellence – Work with cutting-edge technologies and modern architectural patterns.
AI-Forward Engineering – Build with the latest in agentic AI, LLMs, and RAG as part of our product direction.
Scalable Systems – Build applications that handle real business load and complexity.
Cloud-First Approach – Deploy and manage applications in modern cloud-native environments.
Fun Work Environment – We believe great software comes from teams that enjoy working together.
Open Communication – Share ideas freely in an environment that values diverse perspectives and clear dialogue.
Ownership Culture – Take full ownership of features and systems from design to production with team support.
Flexible Work – Hybrid-friendly environment that trusts you to deliver results while maintaining work-life balance.
