About this role
About Neo AI is the most significant shift in how work gets done since the advent of the Internet — yet most organizations fail to capture its value.
Neo is changing that. Founded by
Bhavin Turakhia — Co-Founder of Zeta , Radix , and Titan —
Neo is building an integrated, AI-first suite of products that capture work, centralize context, and make AI a first-class participant in every workflow:
Tasket — A radically reimagined, AI-native work management platform that centralizes context and makes AI delegation seamless for all work.
Friday — AI Assistant, co-worker and agent platform, pre-integrated into Tasket, Studio, Drive and 1000+ SaaS platforms.
Studio — AI-native suite for co-creating docs, spreadsheets and diagrams collaboratively with humans and agents.
Drive — AI-native repository, where humans and agents can co-work on files.
Scribe — AI assistant for meetings that goes beyond note-taking and actually does your work while on the call. a diverse workforce is key to our success.
About the role As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will own the design and delivery of the backend services behind the Neo suite and mentor the engineers around you. We are proponents of leveraging best-in-breed AI tools at every step of the engineering lifecycle — design, development, review, and testing. This requires a different engineering mindset: a lean team of senior, hands-on, AI-adept engineers, resulting in ultra-rapid iteration cycles and fast output. You will help drive this approach for the services you own, from design through to production. You own systems end to end, absorb the ambiguity around them, and hold the bar for what both people and agents ship.
Responsibilities Build & delivery
- Own backend services and modules end to end — design, implementation, testing, and production.
- Turn specs into shipped software fast: break the work down, run coding agents to implement, steer them, and verify the result before it reaches users. Architecture
- Design the services and APIs you own for scale, performance, and maintainability, and own the trade-offs behind them.
- Drive the technical decisions for your systems and contribute to the standards the wider team builds against. AI-native practice
- Use the team's AI-first workflow and harness — specs, skills, evals, guardrails — to move fast, and be the last line of quality on what agents produce.
- Improve the harness where you see gaps, so agent output stays reliable. Mentoring & quality
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and run code reviews; raise the bar for the code that ships. Collaboration & product
- Work with product, design, and other teams to turn ambiguous problems into shipped outcomes, and own the outcome rather than the ticket.
Skills
- AI-native engineering practice — Fluent in an agentic development workflow: spec-driven delivery, running and steering coding agents, and using the harness (specs, skills, evals, guardrails) that makes agent output reliable; the last line of quality on what agents produce.
- Strong language & runtime fundamentals — Deep proficiency in one or more of the languages we work in — Java, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Go — including OOP and design, concurrency, memory management, and how your runtime behaves under load. Comfortable picking the right language for the job rather than defaulting to one.
- Backend services — Design and build scalable, maintainable server-side applications and the services behind them.
- API development — Design robust REST or GraphQL APIs with clean contracts between services and clients.
- Database management — Design and optimise relational schemas (PostgreSQL/MySQL) for performance and scale, and reason about the data layer's failure modes.
- Distributed systems — Comfortable with the realities of distributed systems — scaling, reliability, and the trade-offs that surface under load.
- Performance — Profile backend systems and fix the bottlenecks; advocate for the practices that keep them efficient.
- Security — Build with security in mind and keep up with evolving threats.
- Cloud & DevOps — Cloud platforms (AWS / Azure / GCP), containerisation (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and microservices architecture.
Experience & Qualifications
- 5–6 years building enterprise or large-scale systems.
- Hands-on development experience with object-oriented programming on large-scale systems (Java preferred but not required; Python or TypeScript/JavaScript also welcome).
- Comfortable with scaling and distributed systems, and able to prioritise, handle dependencies, and deliver with minimal oversight.
- Bachelor's/Master's in engineering — computer science, information systems, or equivalent.
Equal Opportunity Neo is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We encourage applicants from all backgrounds, cultures, and communities to apply and believe that a diverse workforce is key to our success
