Senior Software Engineer (L5)

The Apigee India team is looking for a Senior Software Developer (L5) to join us in building and scaling the next generation of API management and AI integration tools. In this role, you will play a hands-on part in developing API Hub (the central catalog for APIs, MCP servers, and AI agents) and Apigee's Value-Added Services (VAS) portfolio, which includes high-scale systems for API security, analytics, distribution, and monetization.

As an L5 engineer, you will own the end-to-end design, implementation, and testing of key features across our control and data planes. You will work on making organizational assets easily discoverable and secure for traditional developers as well as emerging AI agents. This is an exciting opportunity to solve complex, real-world distributed systems problems, collaborate with senior engineers, and directly contribute to a core product in the Google Cloud (GCP) ecosystem.

Responsibilities:

• Technical Implementation: Lead the design and coding of core features that transform the Hub into a definitive repository for APIs, MCP servers, and agents.
• Architectural Design: Build highly scalable, distributed systems that automate asset discovery through deep integrations with various API gateways and GCP Agent Cloud.
• AI Integration: Develop the interfaces and schemas required to make organizational assets available and "understandable" for consumption by AI agents.
• Code Excellence: Drive high engineering standards across the team through rigorous design reviews, code reviews, and the implementation of best practices in cloud-native development.
• Technical Mentorship: Act as a technical lead and mentor for junior and mid-level engineers, helping to solve complex technical bottlenecks and improve system reliability.
• API Hub: We design and run the centralized, intelligent catalog that enables global organizations to auto-discover, register, govern, and index their entire digital landscape spanning traditional REST/gRPC APIs, Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, and AI agents.
• Value-Added Services: We build the high-scale, zero-trust edge services that sit directly on the API Gateway traffic path. Our team has end-to-end engineering ownership of:
• API Security: Guarding business-critical APIs, MCP endpoints, and LLM-connected tools against emerging threat vectors, abuse, and data leakage.
• VAS Analytics and Distribution: Delivering real-time, deep-dive operational and behavioral insights, while enabling seamless packaging and publishing of API products.
• VAS Monetization: Providing the enterprise-grade billing, rate-limiting, and subscription infrastructure that allows clients to directly generate revenue from their developer and AI ecosystem.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience in software development, with a proven track record of designing and implementing high-volume, distributed systems or cloud-native infrastructure.
• Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), generative AI, agentic AI frameworks, and RAG systems.
• Ability to take ambiguous product requirements and translate them into concrete, scalable technical architectures.
