Senior Software Engineer I (Full - Stack)

Join Planview's Product Development team as a Senior Software Engineer. I'm on the OKRs team. You will design, build, and evolve web applications using Python on the backend and React on the frontend, with a primary focus on the backend (roughly 70% backend / 30% frontend). You will own features from concept through deployment, contribute to technical strategy, and help build secure, scalable, and maintainable products. Working closely with Product, Design, and QA, you will also raise engineering quality through thoughtful code reviews, strong development practices, and mentorship.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop modern web applications using React and Python.
• Build RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs using Django, Flask, or FastAPI.
• Lead technical design discussions, create architecture documents, and drive decisions related to scalability, security, performance, and maintainability.
• Own features end-to-end from discovery and technical design through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Design, QA, and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality customer outcomes.
• Conduct code reviews, promote engineering best practices, and mentor mid-level and junior engineers.
• Optimize application performance across the stack, including frontend rendering, API latency, database queries, and overall system responsiveness.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and contribute to cloud infrastructure, deployment automation, and observability.
• Identify and reduce technical debt, including leading modernization, refactoring, or migration initiatives.
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident response, and lead root-cause analysis for production issues.

Requirements:

• Strong professional experience building production-grade web applications with React and Python.
• Expert-level knowledge of React, including hooks, context, and state management using tools such as Redux, Zustand, or React Query.
• Strong knowledge of JavaScript ES6+, TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
• Deep Python expertise and hands-on experience with one or more frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI.
• Experience with asynchronous programming and background job processing using technologies such as Celery or RQ.
• Strong database fundamentals, including schema design, indexing, and query optimization with PostgreSQL and/or MySQL.
• Experience with NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB and Redis.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD, Git workflows, automated testing, and test-driven or test-aware development practices.
• Experience writing frontend tests with Jest and React Testing Library, as well as backend tests with PyTest.
• Strong understanding of system design, software design patterns, distributed systems, and service maintainability.
• Practical knowledge of application security best practices, including OAuth, JWT, and OWASP principles.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly, influence design decisions, and work effectively across teams.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with Next.js, server-side rendering, or micro-frontend architectures.
• Exposure to message queues and event-streaming technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Amazon SQS.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog, Grafana, Sentry, or the ELK Stack.
• Knowledge of AI/ML integration or data pipelines built with Python.
• Experience working in SaaS, fintech, or enterprise product environments.
• Open-source contributions, technical blog posts, or conference presentations.
