Position Summary

StudyIn is seeking a skilled and passionate Sr. Software Engineer Backend to join one of our product engineering teams.

You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performing backend systems that power our digital products. Working closely with Product Owners, Software Engineers, QA Engineers, and Platform Engineers, you will help deliver reliable solutions that address real business needs.

We are looking for a hands-on engineer who takes ownership of technical solutions, contributes to architectural decisions, maintains high engineering standards, and continuously improves the quality and performance of our products.

As a senior member of the team, you will also mentor fellow engineers, contribute to technical discussions, and help establish best practices that support sustainable product development.

Key Responsibilities

1. Backend Development & System Design

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and services using C# and .NET.
• Build clean, reusable, and maintainable code following established engineering principles.
• Contribute to system architecture, technical design, and continuous improvement of existing solutions.

2. API Development & Integrations

• Develop and maintain secure, reliable RESTful APIs and backend integrations.
• Integrate internal products with third-party platforms and external services.
• Implement appropriate authentication, authorisation, validation, and error handling.

3. Database Design & Optimisation

• Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and data access patterns.
• Ensure data integrity, security, and efficient database performance.
• Troubleshoot database issues and improve system efficiency.

4. Engineering Quality, Performance & Security

• Write high-quality, well-tested code, contribute to code reviews as needed, and promote automated testing to reduce manual effort and improve software reliability.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, technical defects, and production issues.
• Apply best practices for application security, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

5. Cloud & Platform Collaboration

• Develop backend services suitable for modern cloud environments.
• Collaborate with Platform Engineering on deployments, CI/CD pipelines, and application monitoring.
• Support reliable releases, environment configuration, and production stability.

6. Product Collaboration & Technical Ownership

• Collaborate with Product Owners, Frontend Engineers, QA Engineers, and other team members to deliver product features.
• Take ownership of technical solutions from design through production delivery.
• Mentor fellow engineers, share knowledge, and contribute to engineering standards and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Technical Skills

Essential Technical Skills

• Backend Development: Strong proficiency in C#, .NET Core, and modern .NET frameworks, with solid knowledge of object-oriented programming and software design principles.
• API Development: Hands-on experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, authentication mechanisms, and third-party integrations.
• Databases: Strong experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL, including database design and query optimisation.
• System Architecture: Good understanding of scalable application design, design patterns, distributed systems, and service-oriented architectures.
• Cloud Technologies: Working knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, along with Docker and containerised applications.
• Testing & Code Quality: Experience with unit testing, integration testing, code reviews, debugging, and performance optimisation.
• Development Tools: Proficiency with Git and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment practices.
• Monitoring & Observability: Familiarity with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, and Sentry for monitoring system health.

Good to Have

• Experience with microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Redis.
• Experience with messaging technologies such as RabbitMQ or Kafka.
• Exposure to GraphQL, Kubernetes, and application monitoring tools.
• Understanding of caching strategies and cloud-native application design.

Experience & Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience in backend software development, preferably using C# and .NET.
• Proven experience developing and maintaining scalable, production-grade applications.
• Ability to independently design and deliver complex technical solutions.
• Experience working in Agile, cross-functional product engineering teams.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers or contributing to technical design discussions is desirable.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
