Senior ML Engineer

The Developer Platform Builder Tools organization is responsible for building the next generation of developer productivity platforms, intelligent development workflows, and AI-powered engineering tools that accelerate software delivery across the enterprise. We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Machine Learning Engineer (IC3) to design, develop, and deploy machine learning and generative AI solutions that enhance the developer experience and improve engineering productivity at scale. In this role, you will work at the intersection of AI Agentic Development, machine learning, large language models (LLMs), software engineering, and developer tooling. You will collaborate closely with platform engineers, product managers, data scientists, and developer experience teams to build intelligent systems that power code generation, code understanding, developer assistance, workflow automation, knowledge discovery, and platform intelligence. Responsibilities

AI Development

• Design, develop, and productionize machine learning models and AI-powered services that improve developer productivity and platform intelligence.
• Build and optimize solutions leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), embeddings, vector databases, and agentic workflows.
• Develop intelligent capabilities for code understanding, code generation, test generation, documentation automation, developer assistants, and engineering analytics.
• Evaluate emerging AI/ML technologies and recommend adoption strategies aligned with business and engineering goals.
• Conduct model experimentation, benchmarking, fine-tuning, and performance optimization.

Platform Engineering & Production Systems

• Build scalable ML infrastructure, inference services, and model deployment pipelines.
• Develop APIs, microservices, and platform components that integrate AI capabilities into developer tools and workflows.
• Design observability, monitoring, evaluation, and feedback systems for production AI applications.
• Ensure solutions meet reliability, scalability, security, and compliance requirements. Data & Model Operations
• Define data collection, feature engineering, and model evaluation strategies.
• Establish ML lifecycle best practices, including model versioning, experimentation tracking, and deployment automation.
• Analyze model performance, identify failure modes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Work with structured and unstructured data sources, including code repositories, documentation, telemetry, and developer activity signals.

Collaboration & Technical Leadership

• Partner with product managers and engineering teams to identify high-impact AI opportunities.
• Contribute to architecture reviews and technical design discussions.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering excellence across the organization.
• Drive adoption of best practices in machine learning engineering, software development, and MLOps.
• Communicate technical concepts and project outcomes effectively to stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field.
• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years developing machine learning or AI-powered applications.
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience building production-grade software systems.
• Experience with modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers, or equivalent.
• Experience developing and deploying machine learning models in cloud environments.
• Strong understanding of machine learning fundamentals, model evaluation, and optimization techniques.
• Experience building REST APIs, distributed systems, and microservices.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization technologies, and cloud-native architectures.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Generative AI, LLM applications, prompt engineering, RAG architectures, and agent frameworks.
• Experience building AI-powered developer tools, coding assistants, or software engineering productivity solutions.
• Knowledge of vector databases, semantic search, embeddings, and knowledge retrieval systems.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, cloud platforms, and MLOps tooling.
• Familiarity with software development lifecycle metrics, developer experience platforms, and engineering intelligence systems.
• Experience working with source code analysis, static analysis, developer telemetry, or repository mining.
