About this role
About MoveInSync
MoveInSync (MIS) is India's leading B2B enterprise employee transportation SaaS and managed mobility platform,
serving 350+ enterprises across IT, GCC, and BFSI. The company operates across multiple entities across all group
entities, multiple business units (ION SaaS; ONE — managed mobility), and a multi-state GST regime spanning 15+
state registrations. MIS is on a clear path to a public listing (NSE) in FY27.
Why This Role Exists
Tax at MoveInSync is not a compliance-filing function — it is a strategic lever. With a multi-entity, multi-state
structure, significant inter-BU transactions, multi-state complexity, and an IPO on the horizon, the company needs a
dedicated tax expert who can run processes end-to-end, protect every rupee of input tax credit, and ensure the tax
position is clean, defensible, and optimised — not just compliant.
This is a long-term investment. We are building an in-house tax capability that reduces dependency on external
consultants for indirect tax entirely, and works alongside consultants for direct tax planning. The right person will own
this function for years.
Role Overview
You will be MoveInSync's tax authority — the person who owns the entire tax landscape across all entities and
business units. The role has two clear halves:
- Indirect Tax (primary — you must own this completely): multi-state GST compliance, ITC optimisation, vendor GST
tracking, inter-BU structuring, tax accounting, and engagement with external counsel on GST position papers and
structuring opinions.
- Direct Tax (secondary — you work alongside external consultants): advance tax, TDS compliance, transfer pricing
(inter-entity and cross-border for subsidiaries), and tax planning for corporate transactions including the IPO,
ESOP exercises, and any M&A / integration activity.
Key Responsibilities
Indirect Tax — GST (Primary Ownership)
- Own end-to-end GST compliance across all entities across all group entities and 15+ state registrations — returns
filing, reconciliation, and payment authorisation.
- Zero ITC leakage mandate: build and run a systematic process to ensure 100% eligible input tax credit is claimed.
Track vendor GST return filing, chase non-compliant vendors, and escalate before credit windows close.
- Solve multi-state credit accumulation challenges — develop and execute strategies to utilise or recover
accumulated credits (re-allocation of input invoices, refund applications, structural changes).
- Own inter-BU GST structuring between ION and ONE — ensure transactions are structured tax-efficiently and
withstand scrutiny from auditors and tax authorities.
- Manage GST credit note and debit note processes with vendors — ensure timely adjustments, correct interest
treatment, and no revenue or tax leakage on vendor settlements.
- Run the relationship with external GST counsel — drive position papers to closure, track open opinions, and
ensure every contentious position has a documented, defensible basis.
- Monitor regulatory changes (CBIC circulars, GST Council updates, judicial precedents) and assess impact on MIS.
Proactively flag risks and opportunities.
- Own GST accounting: ensure GST entries in the books are accurate, ITC balances reconcile to returns, and there
are no audit qualifications on tax positions.
Direct Tax (Working with Consultants)
- Coordinate advance tax calculations and quarterly payments — ensure no interest or penalty exposure.
- Own TDS compliance across all entities and payment types (vendor payments, salary, rent, professional fees,
share transactions). Ensure timely deduction, deposit, and return filing.
- Work with transfer pricing consultants on inter-entity pricing (parent subsidiaries) — provide data, review TP
study, and ensure arm's-length documentation is current.
- Support direct tax planning for corporate events: IPO (tax implications of equity restructuring, bonus issues), ESOP
exercises (perquisite tax, capital gains structuring), and any M&A activity (due diligence, integration, tax
indemnities).
- Manage income tax assessments, scrutiny proceedings, and appeals in coordination with external counsel.
Maintain a litigation tracker with exposure quantification.
Due Diligence & Integration
- Lead the tax due diligence workstream for any acquisition or investment — review target's tax compliance history,
contingent liabilities, ITC positions, and pending assessments.
- Post-acquisition, drive tax integration: entity consolidation, GST registration rationalisation, TDS and withholding
alignment, and inter-company pricing setup.
- Provide tax structuring input for deal negotiations — indemnity clauses, tax warranties, and representations in
transaction documents.
Process, Vendor Management & Automation
- Build repeatable, auditable tax processes — monthly GST reconciliation, quarterly TDS review, annual return
preparation — that don't depend on your personal bandwidth to run.
- Manage external tax vendors and consultants: set clear scopes, timelines, and deliverables. You are the internal
owner; consultants are supplementary, not primary.
- Leverage Claude (AI) and automation tools to streamline tax workflows — vendor GSTIN validation, GSTR-2B
reconciliation, ITC tracking dashboards, and TDS computation. MoveInSync Finance is a Claude-native department
and you will be expected to work this way.
- Maintain a single, up-to-date tax risk register covering all entities — open assessments, pending refunds,
accumulated credits, contentious positions, and exposure quantification.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Must-haves
- CA with 6–12 years of experience; deep, hands-on indirect tax expertise is non-negotiable — you should be able
to independently handle multi-state GST for a complex, multi-entity business.
- Proven track record of ITC optimisation — you've dealt with credit accumulation, vendor non-compliance, SEZ
complications, and credit utilisation strategies. You've saved real money, not just filed returns.
- Strong working knowledge of GST law, rules, and recent judicial developments. Ability to read circulars and
judgments and assess impact on the business without waiting for a consultant's opinion.
- Experience with multi-entity, multi-state structures — not just a single-entity, single-state compliance role. You've
dealt with inter-company transactions, place-of-supply complexities, and state-level credit management.
- Tax accounting proficiency — you can ensure GST/TDS entries in the books are accurate, reconcile ITC balances to
returns, and prepare tax schedules for audit.
- Process-oriented: you build systems and checklists, not just do the work yourself. The team should be able to run
the monthly rhythm without you being in every detail.
- Comfort working with external counsel and auditors — driving them to closure, not waiting for them to deliver.
Strong differentiators
- Experience in a tech / SaaS / platform company with B2B enterprise billing across multiple states.
- Prior involvement in tax due diligence for M&A transactions — buy-side or sell-side.
- Exposure to IPO tax workstream — tax risk disclosures for DRHP, ESOP tax treatment, equity-restructuring tax
implications.
- Transfer pricing experience, particularly for entities with cross-border operations or subsidiaries.
- Familiarity with GST automation tools (ClearTax, GSTN portal, reconciliation platforms) and willingness to adopt
AI-powered workflows using Claude.
- Experience managing or mentoring a small tax team (1–3 members).
What This Role Is Not
- Not a pure compliance role — filing returns is table stakes, not the job. The job is tax planning, ITC protection, and
strategic structuring.
- Not a consultant-dependent role — you are the in-house expert. Consultants support you on complex direct tax
and TP matters; they don't run your function.
- Not a back-office function — you will interact with the CFO weekly, present tax positions to auditors and Board
committees, and provide input on deal structures and investor disclosures.
What Success Looks Like — First 12 Months
- First 90 days: Complete audit of current ITC position across all states and entities. Identify and quantify credit
leakage / accumulation. Take over GST compliance rhythm from controllership. Map all open tax assessments and
litigation.
- By Month 6: ITC utilisation strategy for high-accumulation states is implemented and showing results. Monthly
GST reconciliation is automated and airtight. Vendor GST compliance tracking is systematic — no credit lost to
vendor non-filing.
- By Month 12: Zero ITC leakage on eligible credits. Tax risk register is the single source of truth for auditors and
DRHP disclosures. Direct tax coordination with consultants runs smoothly without CFO intervention. Tax function
is self-running.
Why MoveInSync
- Own the function — this is not a tax role buried inside a large finance team. You are the tax authority for the
company, with direct access to the CFO.
- Genuinely complex tax landscape — multi-entity, multi-state, inter-BU transactions, cross-border subsidiary. You
won't be bored.
- Pre-IPO timing — shape the tax position that goes into the DRHP and build a tax function ready for public-
company scrutiny.
- Long-term investment — this role is being built for years, not a project hire. We want someone who will grow
with the company through and beyond the IPO.
- AI-native finance team — Claude is a core tool, not an experiment. You'll automate what others do manually.
