Senior Java Developer (Struts, Spring, & Oracle DB) Role Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Java Developer with a deep understanding of enterprise-scale applications. In this role, you will bridge the gap between legacy stability and modern innovation. You will be responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and extending our core systems built on Apache Struts, while actively driving our transition toward modern Spring/Spring Boot microservices.

A significant portion of this role involves working with complex Oracle Database environments, requiring advanced SQL profiling, PL/SQL development, and schema design.

Application Development & Maintenance: Design, build, and maintain highly secure, scalable, and robust enterprise applications using Java, Struts, and Spring.

Database Engineering: Write complex Oracle SQL queries, stored procedures, packages, and triggers using PL/SQL. Analyze and optimize slow-running queries to ensure maximum application performance.

Legacy Modernization: Participate in architectural discussions and execution strategies to safely migrate legacy Struts applications to Spring-based microservices.

API Integration: Design and implement secure RESTful and SOAP web services to integrate with internal and external third-party systems.

Code Quality & Mentorship: Conduct thorough peer code reviews, enforce coding standards, and mentor junior/mid-level developers on best practices in Java and Oracle development.

Troubleshooting & L3 Support: Diagnose and resolve complex production issues, performance bottlenecks, and memory leaks in high-transaction environments.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Experience: 7+ years of professional software development experience in enterprise Java/J2EE environments.

Framework Expertise:

• Proven, hands-on experience maintaining and debugging legacy Apache Struts applications.
• Strong expertise in Spring Framework (Core, MVC, Security, Boot, Data) for building modern, cloud-ready applications.

Database Mastery: Deep knowledge of Oracle Database architecture. You must be highly proficient in PL/SQL development, indexing strategies, partition management, and query execution plan analysis.

Enterprise Integration: Experience working with application servers (e.g., WebLogic, JBoss, Tomcat) and configuring connection pools, JNDI, and data sources.

Modern Methodology: Strong grasp of OOP principles, Design Patterns, and Clean Code practices.

Education: Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Preferred/Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience migrating applications from monolithic architectures to cloud-native microservices (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of enterprise message brokers like RabbitMQ or Apache Kafka.
• Prior experience in highly regulated industries (e.g., Healthcare, Finance, or Defense).
