About this role
About Speed Radio Speed Radio is a network for spoken ideas. Built for how people actually communicate today. We took voice out of long podcasts, comment sections, and closed rooms, and turned it into something fast, social, and discoverable. One minute at a time. This is not background audio. It is high-signal, short-form voice in motion. Ideas, perspectives, and conversations moving through a feed, carried by people instead of buried in threads. We exist to make voice work like modern social media should. Immediate. Interactive. Discoverable. Something you can jump into, add to, and come away with something that sticks. At Speed Radio, we optimize for clarity, pace, and impact. No filler. No hierarchy of who gets heard. Just ideas competing on merit, carried by voice. And everyone building this reflects that. How we communicate, how we ship, how we show up externally. The product is the behaviour.
The Role We are looking for a Senior iOS Developer who has built and shipped consumer products that people actually use. This is a hands-on role. You will write code, ship features, and own outcomes. You will work directly with the CTO and Technical Program Manager to shape the core experience. Not just how it works, but how it feels. If you care about performance, speed, and building something people use daily, this will suit you. If you are looking for structure, hand-holding, or a slow environment, this will not.
What You Will Own Product Ownership
- End-to-end ownership of the iOS (SwiftUI) application.
- Own features from design through development, testing, release, and post-launch monitoring.
- Take responsibility for production quality and not just implementation.
- Make trade-offs between speed, quality, and maintainability with sound engineering judgment. Engineering Quality
- Reduce bugs through thoughtful design, testing, and code reviews.
- Own production issues until they are fully resolved, including root cause analysis and prevention.
- Continuously improve code quality, architecture, and technical debt.
- Maintain high standards for readability, testability, and maintainability.
- Ensure every release improves the product rather than introducing regressions. Performance & Reliability
- Improve app responsiveness, startup time, scrolling performance, and overall smoothness.
- Reduce crashes, ANRs, and production incidents.
- Optimize memory, networking, battery usage, and device resources.
- Monitor production metrics and proactively improve reliability. Audio & Feed Experience
- Deliver seamless audio recording and playback.
- Minimize latency and buffering.
- Build fast, intuitive feed interactions.
- Create an experience that feels instant and reliable. Product Collaboration
- Work closely with the CTO, Product, and Design from idea through launch.
- Challenge assumptions and contribute to product decisions.
- Balance customer impact with engineering quality. Delivery Excellence
- Ship small, frequent, high-quality releases.
- Own releases end-to-end, including validation and monitoring.
- Continuously improve development processes, tooling, and team velocity.
What Success Looks Like Within 30 Days
- Understand the architecture, codebase, and release process.
- Fix high-impact bugs and improve overall code quality.
- Ship production-ready features with minimal supervision.
- Participate actively in code reviews and engineering discussions.
Within 90 Days
- Own a major product area such as Feed, Playback, or Engagement.
- Significantly reduce recurring bugs and production issues.
- Improve release quality, testing, and engineering practices.
- Become a trusted technical owner for your domain.
Within 6 Months
- Own the iOS experience end-to-end.
- Drive improvements in reliability, performance, and developer productivity.
- Build systems that enable faster releases without sacrificing quality.
- Establish engineering standards that improve the entire team's output.
What We Value
- Ownership beyond implementation—you own outcomes.
- Shipping with quality, not just speed.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Taking responsibility for production issues until they are resolved.
- Writing clean, maintainable, well-tested code.
- Raising the engineering bar through reviews, mentoring, and technical leadership.
- Clear communication and proactive collaboration.
What This Is NOT
- A feature factory where success is measured only by story points.
- A role where QA is responsible for finding all defects.
- A role where production issues are someone else's responsibility.
- A place where "it works on my machine" is considered done.
- A role for engineers who avoid ownership after code is merged.
What This Requires
- You treat quality as part of development, not a final step.
- You proactively identify problems before customers do.
- You write code that future teammates can understand and extend.
- You leave every part of the codebase better than you found it.
- You balance speed with engineering discipline.
- You take accountability for customer outcomes, not just completed tasks.
Engineering Expectations
- Every PR includes appropriate testing.
- No recurring bug should happen twice without addressing the root cause.
- Production issues are owned through resolution and retrospective.
- Engineers are expected to improve existing code, not only add new features.
- Quality is a shared responsibility—not QA's responsibility alone.
- Success is measured by customer impact, reliability, and maintainability, not just feature velocity.
