About this role
About OptimaStride OptimaStride AI is building Optima OR — an integrated business operating system designed for growing organizations of 10–500 people to cascade goals, track KPIs, and drive accountability from leadership down to individual contributors. Our stack is Angular, TypeScript, NX monorepo, NestJS, and PostgreSQL. We care about clean architecture and shipping software that works reliably, at pace, without the codebase degrading under pressure. The product is in active development — you will be joining at a stage where your decisions shape the architecture, not just the features. We are building toward a platform where organizations can define their own applications on top of our entity and relationship layer.
What You Will Work On The platform has four modules — you will work across all of them: • Optima OR — Strategy and execution. OKRs, KPIs, business rules, role-based dashboards. The strategy core of the product and where the most complex logic lives. • Optima Docs — Document creation and editing, real-time co-editing via Collabora, file management, and knowledge linking. • Optima Comms — Persistent chat, audio/video calls, whiteboards — all contextually linked to work in other modules. • Platform Layer — Explorer, cross-app entity relationships, tagging, dashboards, user and role management. This is what connects everything.
Why This Role Is Different The immediate focus of this role is frontend — Angular, components, and the UI layer across our platform. Backend capability is valued but this is not a backend-first role. You will free up our backend lead to focus entirely on backend, and you will own the frontend layer with real autonomy. We use AI coding tools as a standard part of how we build. The problem we're solving isn't speed — it's discipline. AI tools generate code faster than most teams can review and test it properly, and that creates compounding problems: bugs per PR go up, review cycles get longer, and the codebase gets harder to trust. We need engineers who have already solved this for themselves — who know how to get production-ready output from AI, review it critically, and maintain testing workflows that keep quality high as velocity increases.
On code review: Code review is not optional here. We have seen what happens when review discipline breaks down — previously fixed bugs reappear, regressions compound, and trust in the codebase erodes. You will be expected to review PRs critically, catch regressions, and help us build a review culture that scales.
What We Need from You AI-Assisted Development • Regular, hands-on use of Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar tools on real professional projects — not occasional use • Knows where AI introduces bugs, skips edge cases, or produces plausible-but-wrong logic — and has workflows to catch it before it ships • Can clearly articulate what they let AI do, what they always review manually, and why
Experience and Delivery • 4–5 years of professional full stack experience with multiple complete projects shipped to production — you've owned features end to end and seen them used by real users • Can reason about and articulate architecture decisions, not just implement what has been designed • Comfortable reading and improving existing codebases, not only building greenfield • Comfortable with complex data relationship models — our platform has deep entity relationships, cascade logic, and polymorphic structures that require careful reasoning about data integrity • Multi-tenant SaaS architecture — tenant isolation, user registration flows, and role-based access across tenants (this is active work you will join immediately)
Front End • Hands-on web development with a keen eye for UX/UI — you notice visual inconsistencies, care about interaction quality, and can push back on designs that will hurt usability • Strong Angular — components, services, routing, reactive forms, lazy loading, performance optimization • Strong TypeScript — types, generics, decorators, strict mode — not just JavaScript with type annotations • RxJS and state management patterns (NGRX or equivalent) • NX monorepo — module boundaries, shared libraries, build caching, project structure
Back End • Solid NestJS — modules, guards, interceptors, pipes, dependency injection, REST API design • PostgreSQL — schema design, query writing, indexing basics, Type ORM or Prisma • Authentication, authorization, and basic security patterns • Handles error states properly — structured error responses, meaningful logging, edge case coverage. AI-generated code commonly skips this; you don't
Testing & Quality • Writes tests as part of delivery, not as an afterthought — Jest for unit tests, Cypress for E2E • Does thorough code reviews — catches logic errors, architecture drift, and performance issues, not just style • Disciplined Git workflow — meaningful commit messages, clean branch strategy, structured PRs with context. Especially important when AI is generating large chunks of code • Experience maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar) • You will help establish our code review and testing practices — not just follow a process that already exists. We are building this discipline as we scale and we need someone who has done it before.
Good to Have • Dashboard or data visualization experience — charts, reporting interfaces, KPI displays • Experience with WOPI-based document integrations or Collabora — our documents module is built on this stack • WebSockets or real-time data patterns — our communication module uses real-time chat and collaborative editing • Experience working across multiple client projects simultaneously • Experience building modular libraries and reusable component systems • Dynamic components — runtime component creation, portals, or similar patterns • Data-driven application architecture — dynamic forms, configurable UIs, or schema-driven rendering • 2–3 years of leading or mentoring a team of developers — code reviews, direction-setting, and raising the team’s engineering standard
