Senior Engineer - Design (Electrical)

Job Purpose

Responsible for electrical design, engineering, documentation, and technical support for railway rolling stock and railway electrical systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications, railway standards, and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and review electrical designs, schematics, wiring diagrams, and electrical layouts for railway applications.
• Prepare Electrical Circuit Diagrams (ECD), wiring diagrams, cable schedules, BOMs and electrical design documentation.
• Design and integrate electrical systems such as lighting, power distribution, control circuits, HVAC interfaces, battery/charger systems, auxiliary systems and passenger information systems.
• Perform electrical load calculations, cable sizing, voltage-drop calculations and protection-related calculations.
• Coordinate with Mechanical, Production, Quality, Procurement and Project teams for design integration and implementation.
• Review engineering drawings and ensure design compliance with customer specifications, railway standards and applicable safety requirements.
• Support design validation, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of electrical systems.
• Prepare and maintain Design Change Notes (DCN), Engineering Change Notes (ECN), technical reports and revision-controlled documents.
• Coordinate with suppliers for technical specifications, component selection and resolution of electrical design issues.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing and resolve shop-floor electrical design-related issues.
• Participate in FAT/SAT, inspection, testing and customer technical discussions as required.

Preferred Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of Railway/Rolling Stock Electrical Systems.
• Experience in electrical schematic and wiring design.
• Knowledge of EPLAN / AutoCAD Electrical / AutoCAD or similar electrical design tools.
• Knowledge of IEC, EN, RDSO and railway electrical standards will be preferred.
• Understanding of traction/auxiliary power systems, battery systems, relays/contactors, circuit breakers, sensors and control systems.
• Good knowledge of electrical components, cable harnesses, connectors and electrical panels.
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
