About this role
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Director / Executive Director, Market Access based in United States.
This senior commercial leadership role will own the market access contracting strategy for a specialty pharmaceutical product preparing for launch. You will shape payer engagement and contracting strategies across Medicaid and Commercial channels, translating market intelligence into actionable access plans. The role combines strategic planning, payer negotiations, launch readiness, compliance, and team leadership. You will work closely with Commercial, HEOR, Medical Affairs, Legal, Compliance, and Operations teams to build a compelling and sustainable access strategy. The position offers significant influence over contracting priorities, organizational capabilities, and market launch execution. Success will require strong knowledge of the U.S. payer landscape, exceptional analytical judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving environment. Accountabilities: Develop and lead the market access contracting strategy across Medicaid and Commercial payer channels, ensuring alignment with broader commercial objectives and launch priorities.
Establish contracting approaches for Medicaid channels, incorporating government pricing requirements, regulatory considerations, payer dynamics, and patient access objectives.
Develop and execute Commercial payer contracting strategies, including negotiation frameworks, pricing and rebate structures, and value-based contracting opportunities where appropriate.
Lead market research initiatives covering payer dynamics, competitive contracting approaches, access barriers, and market trends to inform negotiation and launch strategies.
Build and manage detailed contracting timelines spanning pre-approval preparation, launch readiness, and post-approval execution.
Support engagement with priority payers and incorporate payer feedback into market access, contracting, and broader commercial strategies.
Define and monitor key performance indicators for contracting performance, launch readiness, access objectives, and execution against established timelines.
Partner with Legal and Compliance to ensure contracting activities meet applicable regulatory standards, government pricing requirements, and internal policies.
Recruit, lead, develop, and retain the contracting talent required to support successful execution across Medicaid and Commercial channels.
Foster a high-performing and collaborative contracting organization with clear accountability, priorities, and performance expectations.
Partner cross-functionally with HEOR, Medical Affairs, Legal, Commercial Operations, and other stakeholders to ensure contracting strategy reflects the product's value proposition and overall market access objectives.
Present contracting strategies, progress, market insights, and recommendations to senior commercial leadership, translating complex information into clear business decisions.
Adapt contracting priorities and execution plans as payer dynamics, market conditions, and launch requirements evolve.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in science, business, or a related discipline; an advanced degree such as an MBA is preferred.
At least 10 years of experience in market access, payer contracting, pricing, reimbursement, or related commercial functions within the biopharmaceutical industry.
At least 3 years of experience in oncology, rare disease, specialty pharmaceuticals, or another specialty therapeutic area is preferred.
Deep knowledge of the U.S. payer landscape, including Medicaid and Commercial channels and applicable government pricing requirements.
Proven experience developing and negotiating payer contracts in support of a pharmaceutical product launch.
Strong understanding of pricing, rebates, reimbursement dynamics, payer negotiations, and access strategy.
Demonstrated experience developing pre- and post-approval market access timelines and launch readiness plans.
Strong strategic, analytical, and decision-making capabilities, with the ability to prioritize opportunities in a high-growth environment.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, build consensus, and drive execution across teams with different priorities and perspectives.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting complex contracting strategies to senior commercial leadership.
Demonstrated people leadership experience, including attracting, developing, coaching, and retaining high-performing talent.
Strong ability to operate with agility and adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving organization.
Excellent judgment, organization, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50% for payer engagements, industry conferences, and company meetings.
Benefits
Base salary range of $260,000–$305,000 annually , depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity.
