Position Overview We are seeking an experienced
Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to join our Managed Services team in Hyderabad. The ideal candidate will be responsible for end-to-end administration of Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server environments supporting mission-critical enterprise applications. This role requires deep technical expertise, operational discipline, and a proactive approach to database performance, security, availability, and compliance. You will work closely with infrastructure, application, and cloud teams to ensure highly available, secure, and optimized database environments while supporting enterprise customers across multiple industries.
Key Responsibilities Database Administration & Performance
- Administer Oracle RAC and Non-RAC environments.
- Manage Oracle Data Guard, RMAN backup and recovery, ASM, listener configuration, user provisioning, and database maintenance.
- Administer Microsoft SQL Server environments, including Agent Jobs, backups, restores, AlwaysOn Availability Groups, replication monitoring, and security management.
- Monitor and optimize database performance through query tuning, execution plan analysis, indexing strategies, deadlock analysis, blocking session resolution, and resource optimization.
- Perform database capacity planning and storage management.
- Execute database patching, upgrades, and lifecycle maintenance.
Cloud & Infrastructure
- Support Oracle and SQL Server databases hosted on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
- Manage Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), OCI Console, and SQL Server monitoring tools.
- Perform Linux/Unix administration related to database environments.
- Develop and maintain Bash/Python shell scripts for operational automation.
Backup, Recovery & Disaster Recovery
- Implement and validate automated backup strategies using RMAN and SQL Server Backup.
- Perform backup validation and recovery testing.
- Execute disaster recovery drills to meet defined RPO and RTO objectives.
- Participate in business continuity planning.
- Lead database recovery during production incidents.
Incident & Production Support
- Provide production support for critical enterprise environments.
- Respond to Severity-1 production incidents within defined SLAs.
- Participate in 24×7 on-call support rotations.
- Troubleshoot database failures, performance issues, connectivity problems, and infrastructure-related incidents.
- Manage incidents through ServiceNow, Jira, or equivalent ITSM platforms.
Security & Compliance
- Implement database security best practices, including:
- Role-based access control
- Encryption at rest
- Credential management
- Audit logging
- User privilege management
- Support compliance initiatives including:
- PCI-DSS
- GDPR
- Internal Information Security policies
- Support internal and external audits by providing technical documentation and evidence.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain operational documentation, SOPs, runbooks, and recovery procedures.
- Document database architecture, topology, configurations, and patch history.
- Prepare monthly reports covering:
- Database health
- Performance metrics
- Storage utilization
- Patch compliance
- Incident summaries
- Participate in customer and internal operations review meetings.
Required Qualifications
- 8–10 years of database administration experience in enterprise production environments.
- Minimum 6 years of Oracle DBA experience including:
- Oracle RAC
- Data Guard
- RMAN
- ASM
- Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)
- Minimum 4 years of Microsoft SQL Server administration experience.
- Strong expertise in:
- Query optimization
- Performance tuning
- Backup & Recovery
- Database troubleshooting
- Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or comparable cloud platforms.
- Strong Linux/Unix administration skills.
- Experience in Bash and/or Python scripting.
- Hands-on experience supporting high-availability production environments.
- Working knowledge of PCI-DSS and GDPR compliance requirements.
- Experience handling production incidents in a 24×7 support model.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP).
- Microsoft SQL Server or Azure Database certifications.
- Experience working in Managed Services or IT Consulting organizations.
- Exposure to ransomware response and database security incident management.
- Experience supporting high-volume enterprise transaction systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
