Reports To: Manager / Lead, Data Engineering - Atidiv
Start Date: Immediate to 15 days
About Atidiv: Atidiv is a wholly owned subsidiary of Guild Capital - an early-stage venture capital firms. Incubated by Guild Capital in 2009 as a center-of-excellence to support fast-growth US brands, Atidiv has evolved into a global operational powerhouse with 17+ years of experience and 100+ clients across 20+ industries. Atidiv helps clients reduce operating expenses by 20-50% through data science, process automation, and expert managed teams. With delivery centers in India and a client footprint spanning 35+ geographies across the US, UK, EU, Australia, and Southeast Asia, Atidiv delivers end-to-end solutions across data engineering, customer experience, digital marketing, trust & safety, and finance & accounting. This role sits within Atidiv's Data Engineering practice. You will be embedded with one of Atidiv's strategic media clients - a leading independent media agency undergoing a significant data modernization program - and will serve as the primary data platform engineer responsible for the client's SQL Server estate and its migration to Microsoft Fabric.
Role Summary: Atidiv is hiring a Senior DBA and Data Platform Engineer to join its Data Engineering practice. You will serve as both a hands-on database administrator and a strategic data architect for a confidential media industry client. You will own the end-to-end journey from stabilizing the existing on-premise SQL Server estate to designing and executing a migration to Microsoft Fabric - then running the resulting cloud data platform on an ongoing basis. This is a high-impact, individual-contributor role with significant architectural responsibility and direct client visibility. The data lake must be designed cloud-natively from the ground up. We are looking for someone who thinks in lakehouse-first principles - ELT over ETL, Delta tables, medallion architecture, and separation of compute from storage. The expectation is to build the right architecture for the future, not to recreate existing on-premise patterns or migrate SSIS pipelines as-is into the cloud.
Key Responsibilities: 1. On-Premise SQL Server Management
- Administer, monitor, and optimize existing on-premise SQL Server instances (performance tuning, indexing, query optimization, patching).
- Manage backup, recovery, high availability (Always On AG, log shipping), and disaster recovery strategies.
- Enforce database security, access controls, and audit compliance.
- Collaborate with application teams to support schema changes, stored procedures, and ETL pipelines. 2. Migration to Microsoft Fabric
- Assess and document the current SQL Server landscape - databases, schemas, dependencies, data volumes, and SLAs.
- Design the target-state architecture on Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse, Warehouse, and Data Factory components.
- Plan and execute phased migration with minimal disruption, including data validation and cutover strategies.
- Re-engineer ETL/ELT pipelines and integrate Fabric Pipelines and Dataflows Gen2 as replacements for legacy processes.
- Ensure security, governance, and compliance (row-level security, Microsoft Purview integration). 3. Data Warehouse & Lakehouse Design
- Design a modern medallion architecture (Bronze / Silver / Gold) optimized for analytics and reporting workloads.
- Model dimensional and star schemas for business intelligence consumption (Power BI).
- Define data quality frameworks, lineage tracking, and metadata management standards.
- Establish OneLake storage strategy, partitioning, and lifecycle management. 4. Ongoing Platform Operations
- Monitor Fabric capacity usage and optimize cost/performance trade-offs.
- Maintain CI/CD pipelines for database and Fabric artifact deployments.
- Support Power BI semantic model development and DirectLake connectivity.
- Document architecture decisions, runbooks, and data dictionaries.
Required Qualifications: SQL Server Expertise
- 5+ years of hands-on SQL Server DBA experience (2016 / 2019 / 2022).
- Deep expertise in performance tuning, execution plans, indexing strategies, and wait statistics analysis.
- Solid experience with SQL Server HA/DR: Always On Availability Groups, log shipping, and backup/restore.
- Strong T-SQL development skills: stored procedures, functions, dynamic SQL, and query optimization. Microsoft Fabric & Azure
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory / Pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, Spark Notebooks).
- Solid understanding of OneLake, Delta/Parquet formats, and medallion architecture patterns.
- Proficient with Azure services relevant to the data stack: Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Azure RBAC, and data governance via Microsoft Purview. Data Engineering & Architecture
- Experience designing and implementing enterprise data warehouse or lakehouse architectures from scratch.
- Proficiency building and orchestrating ELT pipelines at scale.
- Working knowledge of Power BI and its integration with Fabric (DirectLake mode, semantic models).
- Understanding of data modelling concepts: dimensional modelling, star/snowflake schemas, SCD types.
General:
- Proven track record of leading or executing a SQL Server-to-cloud migration project end-to-end not just a lift-and-shift, but a genuine architectural re-design.
- Cloud-native mindset: designs data platforms using lakehouse-first principles (ELT, Delta/Parquet, medallion layers, separation of compute and storage).
- Ability to leave legacy patterns behind - SSIS, SSAS, traditional ETL, and stored-procedure- driven pipelines should be replaced, not replicated.
- Strong Communication skills - able to articulate architecture decisions to both technical and business stakeholders.
- Self-directed and comfortable working remotely during US business hours (shift: 5 PM - 2 AM IST).
Nice to Have:
- Microsoft certifications: DP-300 (Azure Database Administrator), DP-700 (Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer), or AZ-900 / AZ-104.
- Experience with dbt (data build tool) for transformation workflows.
- Exposure to media industry data (ad impressions, audience segments, campaign attribution).
- Experience with Fabric Real-Time Analytics (Kusto/KQL) and Eventstreams.
- Knowledge of Python or PySpark for data engineering tasks.
What We Offer:
- Competitive compensation benchmarked to senior engineering roles.
- Fully remote, async-friendly work culture backed by a $5Bn+ AUM firm.
- Direct ownership of a greenfield data platform - architect it the right way from day one.
- Exposure to a fast-moving media and advertising technology environment.
- Career growth within Atidiv's expanding Data Engineering practice across 35+ global clients geographies.
