The Global Insights & Analytics team at Olympus Corporation helps define and lead the transformation towards becoming a global, data-driven MedTech company with the help of data and modern data technologies (e.g., machine learning, deep learning). The Senior Data Solutions and Cloud Architect / Engineer is reporting to the Data & Analytics Platform Lead. Together with teams of data engineers, cloud architects, DevOps and MLOps experts as well as data scientists and business users, the senior data solutions and cloud architect/engineer will develop, run, and continuously refine an easy-to-use, modern, and lean/cost-effective cloud-based data & analytics environment for Olympus worldwide. The role will also help businesses leverage modern data technologies by building tailored data solutions and helping to integrate them into their processes and way of working.
Position Accountability/Scope: The Senior Data Solutions and Cloud Architect / Engineer works on end-to-end data management that will enable faster, better, and more informed decision-making within the business and help create business value out of data & (advanced) analytics. The role demands extensive experience, profound technical expertise, and the capability to provide strategic technical oversight. This position involves leading and mentoring technical teams, as well as managing collaborations with external partners.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic planning and execution of prioritized Data and Advanced Analytics solutions, ensuring significant business impact and timely delivery in collaboration with business owners, subject matter experts, data scientists, and Advanced Analytics product owners.
- Architect and develop enterprise-wide frameworks and libraries that facilitate faster, more informed decision-making, driving substantial business value from Data & Advanced Analytics.
- Design and implement secure, best-practice data integration strategies and approaches, ensuring seamless data flow across the organization.
- Ensure data availability and accessibility for prioritized data and advanced analytics initiatives, maintaining stable, scalable, and modular data science pipelines from data exploration through to deployment.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to model their data landscape, obtain data extracts, and define secure data exchange methodologies, fostering a data-driven culture.
- Oversee the acquisition, ingestion, and processing of data from multiple sources and systems into the data cloud platform (Azure), managing and optimizing cloud-based data environments.
- Partner with data and data science teams to map data fields to hypotheses, and curate, wrangle, and prepare data for advanced analytical models, ensuring high-quality data inputs.
- Ensure compliance with Information Security, Cyber Security, Validation (GxP), and Data Privacy principles, developing and enforcing robust data handling and access strategies.
- Innovate and implement smart automation solutions using modern cloud technologies, aligned with business priorities and needs, enhancing operational efficiency.
- Act as key collaboration partner for all data and cloud-related activities, providing lateral leadership to Data Engineers, Cloud Architects, DevOps and MLOps experts and fostering cross-functional teamwork.
- Mentor and guide junior architects and data engineers, promoting knowledge sharing and professional development within the team.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, continuously integrating innovative solutions to maintain a competitive edge.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for all data architecture and cloud solutions, ensuring clarity and continuity.

What we are looking for: Education:
- Bachelor's degree or a master's degree in Information Technology, computer science, or a related field.
Experiences:
- At least 6-8 years of relevant working experience, ideally in a pharma/medtech/healthcare environment.
- Expertise in Data Handling: Proven ability to work with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data, extracting valuable insights and identifying linkages across disparate data sets.
- Programming Proficiency: High proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, JavaScript, Scala, or Java.
- Database Technologies: Extensive experience with multiple database technologies, including distributed processing (Spark, Hadoop, EMR); traditional RDBMS (MS SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL); MPP (Snowflake, AWS Redshift); and NoSQL (CosmosDB, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra, Neo4J, Titan).
- Information Security: Strong understanding of information security principles to ensure compliant handling and management of data.
- Cloud Platforms: Extensive experience and interest in cloud platforms (preferably Azure) and their services and ecosystem.
- Data Warehousing and ETL: Strong experience with traditional data warehousing and ETL tools (preferably ADF).
- Cloud Architecture: Proficiency in architecting, building, and maintaining cost-efficient and scalable cloud environments.
- Infrastructure as Code: Ability to write infrastructure as code—preferably Terraform.
- Business Acumen: Ability to understand business objectives and create cloud-based solutions to meet those goals.
- Analytical and Creative Thinking: Result-driven, with strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, bridging the gap between business and data science; consultancy experience is a plus.
