    About this role

    Role Overview & Work Dynamic

This is a data-first engineering role: the majority of the work is SQL Server (complex T-SQL, stored procedures, ETL, and performance tuning) wrapped in C#/.NET applications, services, and scheduled jobs that replace manual processes with reliable automation.

The developer works directly with operations, finance, and support stakeholders to understand how work is done today, and turns recurring manual effort into supportable systems, partnering with Team Leads on technical approach and priorities.

The role is self-directed: the developer takes a set of requirements from Product and runs with itclarifying scope up front, breaking the work down, making the design and data-modeling calls, and driving it through to production under minimal supervision. As a senior contributor, the developer is also expected to raise the technical bar for the developers around them.

AI-augmented engineering is core to how this team works, and Claude Code is the tool the team uses daily to plan, implement, debug, document, and review changes. Proficiency with Claude Code specifically is a hard requirement for this role, not a preference—experience limited to autocomplete-style assistants is not a substitute. Code review is a first-class responsibility: the developer is a regular reviewer on pull requests across multiple repositories, including AI-assisted code, and is expected to catch real defects and articulate root causes.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design, write, and tune complex T-SQL (stored procedures, functions, views, CTEs, and window functions) against large, multi-source datasets.
    • Own database performance: read and interpret execution plans, design indexing strategies, and diagnose slow queries, blocking, and deadlocks.
    • Build and maintain ETL and data-integration processes (SSIS, Azure Data Factory, or C#-based pipelines) that move, transform, and reconcile data between internal systems and third-party sources.
    • Design and evolve relational data models and schemas for internal applications and reporting, including migration scripts and version-controlled database changes.
    • Build internal C# tools and services (web applications, Web APIs, Azure Functions, Windows Services, and scheduled/batch jobs) that replace manual business processes with reliable automation.
    • Take requirements from Product and own delivery end to end: clarify scope and edge cases, break work into deliverable increments, sequence and estimate, and report progress and risks without prompting.
    • Partner directly with operations, finance, and support stakeholders to map existing manual workflows, identify automation opportunities, and define acceptance criteria.
    • Build data quality, validation, and reconciliation checks into every automated process, with logging, alerting, and audit trails.
    • Produce and support internal reporting, dashboards, and data extracts for business teams (SSRS, Power BI, or direct query/export tooling).
    • Integrate with third-party and vendor APIs (SSO, payment providers, CRM, email/notification) where internal processes depend on external data.
    • Use Claude Code as a daily part of the development workflow (feature planning, implementation, debugging, test generation, and pull request preparation) with the judgment to know when to override it.
    • Perform substantive code reviews on teammates' pull requests: verify changes against ticket acceptance criteria, validate assumptions against real data, identify root causes, and provide clear, prioritized, actionable written feedback—including on AI-generated code.
    • Write clear pull request descriptions that document the problem, root cause, fix, and test plan.
    • Collaborate with the rest of the engineering team and business stakeholders on design, code review, and phased rollout of internal tools.

    What We Are Looking For

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
    • 5+ years of professional experience with C# and the .NET ecosystem.
    • 5+ years of hands-on MSSQL Server development: advanced T-SQL, stored procedures, functions, triggers, indexing, and query performance tuning — SQL depth is the single most important requirement and will be assessed first.
    • Demonstrated experience designing relational data models and working with large, messy, multi-source datasets, including profiling, cleansing, and reconciling data.
    • Proficiency with Claude Code is mandatory — must be actively using it in real production work and able to demonstrate how they direct it and validate its output. Experience limited to GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar autocomplete tools does not satisfy this requirement.
    • Demonstrated code review experience: able to read unfamiliar code, evaluate applications, identify issues, and articulate solutions in writing.
    • Experience building ETL or data-integration processes (SSIS, Azure Data Factory, or equivalent) and automating recurring manual processes end to end.
    • Experience gathering requirements directly from non-technical business stakeholders and translating them into working tools.
    • Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision — a track record of owning features or systems from requirements handoff through production.
    • Preferred: Experience with Azure (Functions, Blob Storage, Application Insights, serverless architectures).
    • Preferred: Windows Services and scheduled tasks.
    • Preferred: Reporting and BI experience (SSRS, Power BI, or similar).
    • Preferred: RESTful APIs using JSON and XML.
    • Preferred: Source-controlled database change management (DACPAC, Flyway, EF migrations, or similar).
    • Experience with Git version control.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
    • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
    • Proven ability to take initiative and be innovative.
    • Good organizational skills, with a disciplined approach to implementation, support, and documentation. Role & responsibilities
