Senior Blockchain Engineer

We're looking for a Senior Blockchain Engineer to own this platform end to end, the smart contracts, the chain operations, and the data/indexing layer that makes it usable, and to lead its technical evolution as we extend the product. This is a hands-on senior role: you'll write and review Solidity, operate the network, and set the security bar for a system that moves real money in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities:

• The smart-contract suite governing the platform's token and wallet operations (issuance, transfers, redemption, balance accounting), architecture, code, upgrades, and security sign-off
• The permissioned network: validator set management, genesis and consensus configuration, node operations, monitoring, and disaster recovery
• The upgrade path: proxy-based contract upgrades, multi-sig governance, and upgrade-authority custody (who can change contract logic, and how that authority is secured)
• The indexing and read layer: the service that projects on-chain events into a queryable store powering the admin dashboards and app transaction history, including its correctness and reconciliation against on-chain state
• Chain-to-application integration: the contract and event interfaces the admin console and mobile app depend on
• Operational integrity: keeping the on-chain ledger, the indexed view, and what users see consistent
• You'll also help scope and lead new capabilities on the roadmap, deciding what genuinely belongs on-chain versus off-chain, and bringing in specialist support (audit, formal verification, and other niche skills) for high-risk components when needed.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of hands-on Solidity and EVM smart contract development, including contracts deployed to production that handle value.
• Deep smart-contract security knowledge: reentrancy, access control, integer safety, privileged-operation authority, upgrade-pattern risks; experience preparing contracts for third-party audits.
• Hands-on experience with a permissioned EVM network, Hyperledger Besu, strongly preferred (IBFT 2.0 / QBFT): genesis configuration, validator management, and node operations.
• Token-contract experience (ERC-20-style or equivalent) with access-controlled privileged operations.
• OpenZeppelin upgradeable contracts; UUPS proxy pattern and AccessControl in production.
• Strong tooling: Hardhat, ethers.js (v5), and high-coverage testing, including all revert paths.
• Solid grasp of the indexer pattern; subscribing to on-chain events and projecting them into a database for reporting and search; comfortable owning that off-chain service.
• Comfort in a backend context around the chain (Java/Web3j or Node) and with relational databases.

Our stack:

• Chain: Hyperledger Besu (private, EVM-compatible).
• Consensus: IBFT 2.0.
• Contracts: Solidity ^0.8. 19.
• Framework: Hardhat + OpenZeppelin UUPS upgradeable proxies, AccessControl.
• Key libraries: @openzeppelin/contracts-upgradeable, ethers.js v5.

Strongly preferred:

• Experience in regulated fintech/payments, ideally India (RBI-regulated environments, digital payments, wallets).
• Direct experience with tokenized money, stablecoin, or similar issue-and-redeem token systems and the controls expected around privileged operations.
• Familiarity with multi-party permissioned networks (multiple partner institutions on one chain).
• Judgement on on-chain vs. off-chain design trade-offs and where audit/formal verification/specialist support is genuinely needed.

Nice to have:

• Contributions to Besu, Ethereum, OpenZeppelin, or other open-source blockchain projects.
• Experience taking over and evolving an inherited codebase (documentation and knowledge transfer will be part of onboarding).
• Exposure to HSM-based key management, decentralized identity (DID), or zero-knowledge proof systems.
