Senior Billing Accountant

Position Summary

Senior Billing Accountant is responsible for managing complex and high-value client billing portfolios, driving billing excellence, supporting revenue realization, and leading billing operations for strategic projects. The role serves as a subject matter expert (SME) for billing processes, contract compliance, unbilled management, and collections support while providing guidance and coaching to junior billing accountants.

In addition to core billing responsibilities, the Senior Billing Accountant plays a key role in process improvement, automation initiatives, stakeholder management, and operational governance within the Finance Service Center. The role requires independent decision-making, strong analytical skills, and the ability to partner effectively with Project Managers (PMs), Client PMs, Finance Leaders, and Operations teams across global regions.

Key Responsibilities

Complex Billing Management

• Independently manage a portfolio of high-value, complex, and strategic projects.
• Review invoices prepared by junior billing team members.
• Ensure billing accuracy, contractual compliance, and timely invoice submission.
• Handle complex billing arrangements including Cost Plus (CP/CPFF),Time & Material (T&M),Fixed Price
• Review contract terms, funding limits, amendments, and billing provisions before invoice generation.

Revenue Realization & Unbilled Management

• Lead monthly reviews of unbilled balances and aging reports.
• Partner with PMs to identify billing opportunities and reduce revenue backlog.
• Investigate and resolve complex suspense and revenue recognition issues.
• Drive achievement of month-end and quarter-end billing targets.

Accounts Receivable & Collections Leadership

• Support resolution of disputed invoices and payment delays.
• Monitor AR aging trends and recommend corrective actions.
• Escalate collection risks and develop action plans with project teams.

Team Leadership & Mentoring

• Provide day-to-day guidance and support to Billing Accountants and new team members.
• Review project setups and invoices prepared by the team to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with contractual terms and company policies.
• Deliver process training and knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Support onboarding and continuous development of team members.
• Assist managers in developing SOPs, controls, and best practices.

Stakeholder Management

• Act as a trusted advisor to PMs, Client PMs, and Operations teams.
• Communicate billing status, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.
• Handle escalations and complex client billing concerns professionally.

Process Improvement & Automation

• Drive billing process standardization and operational excellence initiatives.
• Lead automation projects utilizing: Oracle ERP, Power BI, Microsoft Copilot, Power Platform.
• Identify opportunities to streamline billing workflows and improve productivity.
• Support implementation of global billing best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, MBA or related discipline.
• 8+ years of relevant experience in billing, project accounting, accounts receivable, or finance operations.
• Experience within Engineering, Construction, Environmental, Consulting, or Professional Services industries.
• Experience with Oracle R12 or Oracle Cloud ERP.
• Experience with Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
