About this role
About Cerina Health Cerina Health is a digital mental health company changing how mental healthcare is designed and delivered. We are moving beyond simple chatbots to build a proprietary Agentic AI platform that powers conversational triage, clinical engagement and population-health analytics for the NHS and beyond. We are a small, expert team working directly with clinical academics and experienced founders in a flat, high-trust environment. The Role We are looking for a Senior AI Tech Lead to lead our India engineering team and act as the senior technical owner on the ground. You will set the technical direction for our agentic products, drive day-to-day delivery, mentor a small team of AI and full-stack engineers, and partner closely with our UK-based Head of Product & Technology to turn product and clinical strategy into shipped, reliable software. This is deliberately a
hands-on leadership role . You will spend a meaningful part of your week writing and reviewing code, making architecture decisions, and unblocking the team — not only managing. As the most senior engineer in India, you are the person we lean on to raise engineering standards, make the hard build-vs-buy calls, and ensure that what we ship is safe, maintainable and fast to iterate on. You will be based at our Bangalore office (hybrid) and work with a healthy overlap with UK hours. Key Responsibilities ·
Architecture & technical direction: Own the architecture of our agentic products — the conversational triage and referral engine, clinical engagement tools, and population-health analytics. Decide where and how AI is used, and design systems that are observable, testable and safe. ·
Hands-on engineering: Build and ship production features yourself. Backend in Python with agentic frameworks (LangGraph / LangChain); modern TypeScript/React on the front end; deployed on GCP (Cloud Run, Firestore). ·
Delivery ownership: Run the delivery cadence with the team — sprint planning, prioritisation, estimation and release. Keep the roadmap moving and surface risks early. ·
Team leadership & mentoring: Lead a small India team (AI engineers plus an integration engineer). Review code, set standards, mentor and grow junior engineers, and contribute to hiring. ·
Engineering quality: Establish and uphold good practice — code review, automated testing and CI, version-control discipline, documentation, observability and incident handling. ·
Cross-team collaboration: Work daily with the UK Head of Product & Technology and clinical stakeholders. Translate product and clinical requirements into robust technical designs and realistic estimates. ·
Safety-by-design: Build and enforce clinical guardrails — supervisory agents, audit trails, crisis-handling logic — to the standard expected of a regulated health product. What Success Looks Like (First 6 Months) · You are the trusted technical owner of the India team: it ships predictably and engineering quality has visibly improved. · The agentic product architecture is documented, observable and maintainable by the whole team — no single points of failure. · Junior engineers are growing under your mentorship, and the team can take on new products without heroics. Requirements · 8+ years of software engineering, including
demonstrable experience leading a team and owning system architecture end to end. · Strong Python and
hands-on agentic AI experience — LangGraph / LangChain or equivalent stateful, multi-agent systems (well beyond simple RAG chains). · Comfortable full-stack: modern TypeScript/React, REST and event-driven architectures, and cloud deployment (GCP preferred; AWS fine). · A track record of shipping and operating production systems, and of making pragmatic build-vs-buy and architecture trade-offs under real constraints. · Strong people skills: you can mentor engineers, give clear feedback, and hold your own with founders, clinicians and a UK product lead. · Excellent written and verbal English, and comfort working across the India–UK time difference. Nice to Have · Experience in digital health, MedTech, or another regulated / safety-critical industry. · Familiarity with NHS systems, interoperability, or data governance (DSPT, DPIA, clinical safety / DCB0129). · Experience standing up or scaling a small engineering team and its practices. · Fluency with AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot). Why Join Cerina ·
Real ownership — you are the senior technical voice for the entire India team from day one. ·
Genuine impact — your work directly improves access to mental-health and work-and-health support for thousands of NHS patients. ·
Frontier work — production agentic AI in a regulated setting, one of the harder and more interesting problems in the field. · A flat, high-trust team working directly with clinical academics and experienced founders, with a new Bangalore office. Our Process We don’t do whiteboard quizzes or algorithm puzzles. For this role there is
no take-home build task . Instead: 1.
Application via the form below. 2.
Architecture conversation (45 min): walk us through a system you’ve designed and led, and/or share how you’d approach a real Cerina architecture problem. 3.
Final conversation with the founders and the UK Head of Product & Technology, plus references.
