About this role
About the role
We are hiring a Senior Accounting Manager in India to own the day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of US clients. You will be the primary hands-on accountant for your clients: running the month-end close, keeping reconciliations current, preparing financial packages, and coordinating with our US-based controllers and CFOs. This is a client-owning role for someone who is meticulous, proactive, and comfortable communicating directly with founders and finance leads in the US.
Key responsibilities
- Own end-to-end monthly close for 6 to 10 assigned clients, including bank/credit card reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, deferred revenue, and intercompany entries.
- Maintain accurate books in QuickBooks Online: categorize bank feed activity, apply bank rules, manage the chart of accounts, and keep vendor and customer records clean.
- Process and reconcile payroll (Gusto, Rippling, Justworks, or similar) to the general ledger, including payroll liabilities and benefits.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable workflows (Bill.com, Ramp, Brex, Melio), including vendor bill entry, approvals, customer invoicing, and collections follow-up.
- Prepare monthly financial packages: P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, budget-to-actual variance analysis, and clear commentary for client review.
- Reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly with supporting schedules; flag and resolve variances.
- Support multi-entity and consolidated reporting where applicable, including intercompany eliminations.
- Prepare PBC schedules and support US tax preparers, auditors, and 1099 filings at year-end.
- Serve as day-to-day point of contact for assigned clients; respond to questions, chase open items, and escalate issues to the controller/CFO.
- Document processes, improve close checklists, and contribute to close automation and standardization across the firm.
Qualifications
- Chartered Accountant (CA), CA Inter, CPA, or MBA (Finance)/M.Com with equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, including at least 5 years supporting US clients (US GAAP) in an outsourced accounting, KPO, or public accounting environment.
- Expert-level QuickBooks Online skills; QBO ProAdvisor certification preferred. Experience with Xero or NetSuite is a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP for small and mid-sized businesses, including accrual accounting, revenue recognition, and prepaid/accrual schedules.
- Hands-on experience with US payroll platforms and AP/expense tools (Gusto, Rippling, Bill.com, Ramp, Brex, Expensify).
- Advanced Excel/Google Sheets (lookups, pivots, reconciliation workbooks).
- Excellent written and spoken English; able to communicate clearly and professionally with US clients.
- Highly organized, deadline-driven, and comfortable managing multiple clients with competing priorities.
- Nice to have: experience with startup/SaaS clients, nonprofit fund accounting, or multi-entity consolidations.
Working hours and location
- Remote within India.
- Core overlap of at least 4 hours with US Pacific time (approximately 8:30 PM 12:30 AM IST), with flexibility around month-end close.
