SAP MDG Consultant

Acumant is seeking an SAP MDG Consultant to support a global Master Data Governance landscape covering material, business partner, finance and equipment master data. The primary focus is SAP MDG for Material and Business Partner, with SAP MM knowledge considered a strong advantage. The consultant will work across project delivery and service operations, combining solution design, gap leadership, implementation, incident resolution and continuous improvement.

BUSINESS CONTEXT

• The Master Data Governance IT team maintains and governs Finance, Material and Business Partner master data across ECC and S/4HANA environments.
• Equipment master data is planned to go live in 2027, creating future exposure to MDG-EAM / Asset Information Workbench concepts.
• The role supports both project delivery and Service Delivery Team activities, including incidents, service requests and continuous-improvement developments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work closely with subject-matter experts, service architects and business stakeholders to define scalable, supportable SAP MDG solutions.
• Act as designer and gap lead for assigned developments, from requirement clarification through detailed design, build coordination, testing and deployment.
• Prepare functional and technical design inputs, including data model impacts, workflow, validations, derivations, interfaces, authorizations and test scenarios.
• Support SAP MDG-M and MDG-BP implementation and enhancement activities across ECC and S/4HANA landscapes.
• Use MDG Data Import Framework and related loading approaches to support controlled master-data onboarding and migration.
• Configure or guide BRF+ rules, workflow decisions, validations and derivations in MDG processes.
• Extend MDG data models and coordinate ABAP developments, enhancements, debugging and defect resolution.
• Analyze incidents, assess impact and priority, identify service-restoration actions and drive assigned tickets to closure.
• Monitor progress, communicate status and keep affected business partners informed throughout resolution.
• Drive continuous-improvement developments and contribute to service stability, root-cause reduction and support documentation.
• Deliver assigned scope on time, within agreed effort and at the required quality level.
• Identify and escalate risks, dependencies, quality concerns and delivery issues early not after deadlines are missed.
• Build effective working relationships across architecture, project, service, development, testing and site teams.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• Approximately 4-7 years of relevant SAP experience, with credible hands-on delivery in SAP MDG.
• Strong knowledge of ECC and/or S/4HANA Material Master and Business Partner, including customer and vendor master-data concepts.
• Hands-on SAP MDG-M and SAP MDG-BP implementation or enhancement experience.
• At least one full lifecycle SAP MDG project, from requirements and design through build, testing, deployment and stabilization.
• Practical knowledge of MDG Data Import Framework.
• Experience extending SAP MDG data models and assessing downstream impacts.
• BRF+ experience within SAP MDG, including validations, derivations or workflow-related rules.
• ABAP knowledge sufficient to understand, review, debug and coordinate MDG-specific developments and enhancements.
• Ability to produce detailed solution designs and define robust positive, negative, regression and integration test scenarios.
• Experience with incident, service request and change-delivery processes in a structured support environment.
• Advanced English communication skills and the ability to work effectively with global stakeholders.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

• SAP MM process and configuration knowledge, especially where material master governance affects procurement and inventory processes.
• Exposure to SAP MDG Finance domain.
• Exposure to Equipment / EAM master data, SAP MDG-EAM or Asset Information Workbench (AIW).
• Experience in globally governed template environments with multiple sites, languages or legal entities.
• Experience balancing project delivery with production support and service-management obligations.

• A data model extension they personally delivered or governed, including impact on UI, workflow, validations, replication and testing.
• How they used BRF+ in MDG and how rule ownership, transport and regression were controlled.
• How they approached data import, duplicate prevention, validation failures and reconciliation.
• An incident they diagnosed end-to-end, including evidence gathered, root cause, fix and prevention action.
• The boundary between standard SAP capability, configuration, enhancement and custom ABAP and how they decide among them.
