S/4HANA ABAP Lead Consultant

We are looking for an experienced S/4HANA ABAP Lead Consultant with 10-12 years of strong hands-on experience in SAP ABAP development and proven expertise in end-to-end SAP S/4HANA implementation projects. The ideal candidate should have strong technical leadership capabilities along with expertise in ABAP development, S/4HANA architecture, custom developments, integrations, enhancements, performance optimization, and technical solution design.The candidate will be responsible for leading the technical development track, working closely with functional consultants, architects, business stakeholders, integration teams, and implementation partners to deliver scalable SAP solutions aligned with business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the technical ABAP track for end-to-end SAP S/4HANA implementation projects.
• Analyze business and functional requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
• Lead technical design, development, testing, deployment, and support activities across the S/4HANA implementation lifecycle.
• Design and develop Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, Forms and Workflows (RICEF).
• Provide technical leadership on ABAP Objects, Classes, Interfaces, Function Modules, BAPIs, BADIs, User Exits and Enhancement Framework.
• Drive development using ABAP on HANA and modern S/4HANA development approaches.
• Design and develop CDS Views, AMDP, SQL-based solutions, and optimized HANA applications.
• Lead integrations using OData, REST/SOAP APIs, IDocs, RFCs, Web Services, and other integration technologies.
• Work closely with SAP Fiori/UI5 teams to design and support backend services and OData APIs.
• Review technical designs and ensure adherence to SAP development standards and S/4HANA best practices.
• Conduct code reviews, debugging, root-cause analysis, performance tuning, and technical quality assessments.
• Ensure adherence to clean-core principles, extensibility standards, and S/4HANA simplification concepts.
• Prepare and review technical specifications, development standards, unit test cases, technical documentation, and deployment plans.
• Coordinate with functional consultants, solution architects, integration teams, QA teams, and business stakeholders.
• Lead technical activities during SIT, UAT, defect resolution, cutover, go-live, and post-production support.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to ABAP developers and junior technical consultants.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and provide root-cause analysis and permanent technical solutions.
• Manage technical dependencies, development priorities, risks, and delivery timelines.
• Participate in solution architecture discussions and recommend appropriate SAP technical solutions.
• Drive continuous improvement, technical modernization, performance optimization, and development quality initiatives.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• 10-12 years of SAP ABAP development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA.
• Proven experience leading or contributing significantly to multiple end-to-end S/4HANA implementation projects.
• Strong technical leadership and solution design experience.

• Experience in designing and developing complex integrations and interfaces.
• Strong debugging, performance tuning, and root-cause analysis capabilities.
• Experience with SAP Fiori/UI5 backend development and OData services.
• Strong understanding of SAP development standards and transport/deployment processes.
• Ability to independently handle technical discussions with architects, functional consultants, and business stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Good to have

• Experience in S/4HANA implementation, rollout, migration, or transformation programs.
• Strong knowledge of SAP Fiori, OData, REST APIs, and enterprise integrations.
• Exposure to SAP BTP / Integration Suite is an advantage.
• Experience with SAP Activate methodology and implementation lifecycle.
• Strong understanding of S/4HANA extensibility and clean-core principles.
• Knowledge of RAP (RESTful Application Programming Model) is preferred.
• Exposure to SAP Cloud technologies is an advantage.
• Experience working with distributed/global teams and multiple implementation partners.
• Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to ABAP development teams.
