About this role
Position: Research Engineer I
Key words: Material science and Metallurgy/Ceramics Engineering/ Chemical Engineering/ Abrasives/ Ceramics Position Summary The candidate will work closely with competency and business R&D teams to characterize a wide range of materials and products across Saint-Gobain businesses, with an initial focus on abrasives, performance ceramics, and refractories. The role involves developing characterization methodologies, building technical know-how, and establishing structure–process–performance relationships through scientific analysis. The candidate will also support manufacturing plants through process understanding, quality investigations, and resolution of business and customer-related technical challenges. The candidate must possess
- Strong fundamentals in ceramics, metals and alloy systems, with a good understanding of the relationship between processing, microstructure, and material properties.
- Hands-on experience with materials characterization techniques such as SEM (including TTSEM), optical microscopy, XRD, and surface/topography analysis.
- Basic knowledge of sample preparation methods for powders, coated surfaces, and solid materials.
- Ability to analyze data using Excel/statistical tools

Educational Qualification M.Tech./M.S./M.E. in Materials Science & Engineering, Ceramics Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, with specialization or strong exposure to materials, metallurgy, process engineering, or manufacturing technologies.
Candidates should also hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering in one of the above disciplines. Industrial experience: added advantage.
