About this role
GENERAL SCOPE & SUMMARY
The Source Code Release Management (SCRM) team enables secure, reliable, and automated software delivery across Alvaria. This role supports and improves the tools, platforms, and processes that allow Engineering, QA, IT, SRE, and Cloud Operations teams to build, test, scan, package, and deploy software efficiently. Working with guidance from a Principal Release Engineer or higher, the DevOps / Release Engineer will contribute to CI/CD pipeline automation, source control and artifact repository management, application security integrations, cloud infrastructure support, build reliability, and developer productivity. The role will also help modernize Alvaria's software delivery platform by supporting the transition from Bitbucket to GitHub Enterprise Cloud and from Jenkins-based build pipelines to GitHub Actions. The ideal candidate combines strong technical curiosity, automation mindset, communication skills, and a service-oriented approach to helping teams deliver high-quality software faster and more consistently.
This role helps modernize Alvaria's software delivery platform by improving automation, reliability, security, and developer experience across the build and release lifecycle.
PRIMARY ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own and improve source code, work tracking, and collaboration platforms used by Engineering teams, with a focus on GitHub Enterprise Cloud adoption while supporting Bitbucket Data Center during migration.
- Maintain and improve CI/CD build infrastructure, including Jenkins administration, GitHub Actions workflow development, pipeline migration, uptime, scalability, security updates, and build reliability.
- Design and code infrastructure automation scripts for provisioning, scaling, building, testing, and delivering software in a CI/CD environment.
- Administer and support Sonatype Nexus Repository Manager, including:
- Repository configuration and lifecycle management
- Hosted, proxy, and group repositories.
- Artifact publishing, retrieval, and retention policies.
- Repository access controls and permissions.
- Repository cleanup and storage management.
- Troubleshooting artifact resolution and publishing issues.
- Integration with CI/CD pipelines and build systems.
- Configure SAST and 3rd Party security scans.
- Administer AWS Cloud infrastructure (EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, etc.).
- Ensure operational servers are up to date with 3rd party and core (e.g. Java JVM) foundational software components.
- Write internal documentation and procedures for ongoing build and operational server maintenance.
- Interact with internal cross-functional members (e.g. Development, SRE, IT) to better understand system issues and/or necessary modifications.
REQUIRED SKILLS & TOOLS
- 2+ years of experience in DevOps, release engineering, build engineering, platform engineering, or software delivery automation.
- Experience administering and supporting Git-based source control platforms, preferably GitHub Enterprise Cloud and Bitbucket Data Center, including repository migration or platform transition experience.
- Experience designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting build systems and CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar automation platforms.
- Scripting languages (i.e. PowerShell, Bash, Groovy Pipeline, Python).
- Experience migrating or modernizing build pipelines from legacy CI/CD tooling to GitHub Actions is highly desirable.
- Linux - Alma 9 and AWS Linux.
- Experience with Nexus Repository Manager and Nexus IQ administration.
- Windows Server administration.
- Experience with AWS (VPC, IAM, RDS, EC2 and S3).
- Experience with infrastructure as code, configuration management, or cloud automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, or equivalent technologies.
- Strong communication, documentation, troubleshooting, and customer-service mindset, with the ability to support multiple engineering teams and explain technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
