Job Title - Registrar / Jr. Consultant
Department - ICU
Qualification - MD/ DA
Responsibilities -
- Complete a brief admission examination ofeach patient when appropriate and document clinical findings.
- Ensure the highest standards of patient carefor all patients attending/admitted to the hospital.
- Attend ward rounds with consulting doctor, asrequired, and be available to discuss patient treatment plans.
- Provide a 24-hour medical services within thehospital on an on-call basis permanently.
- Inform admitting Consultants of changes inmedical conditions of patients and of relevant action taken.
- Follow the instructions of consultants fortheir specific regime for each individual patient.
- Perform clinical procedures as requested byconsultant.
- Visit patients as required at the request ofthe nursing staff.
- Countersign any drug instructions given byconsultants over the telephone and satisfy prescribing requirements throughoutthe hospital, as requested by nursing staff by checking their validity, safetyand need.
- Visit all in-patients daily and document inclinical notes.
- To be familiar with all relevantprocedures/policies.
- Liaise closely with nursing staff and otherrelevant clinical or administrative staff.
- Ensure that comprehensive handover, with fullpatient rounds, has taken place at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Ensure comprehensive, accurate and concisemedical records are maintained for patients with and appropriate signed anddated legible entry in patients medical record on every attendance upon apatient.
- Arrange investigations, surgical treatment,medical treatment and discharge as directed by the Registrar and/or consultantto which assigned.
- Ensure that discharge summaries and othercorrespondence are completed with minimum delay and that all suchcorrespondence is complete prior to leaving the unit.
- Participate in compulsory Hospital basedtraining, i.e., Fire, BLS/ACLS.
- Keep abreast of new developments, skills,technology, and current literature in order to initiate and respond to changesin the work environment, e.g. data analysis, clinical audit, research etc.
- Under no circumstances should Registrar / Jr.Consultant / Associate Consultants seek consent for operations or procedureson behalf of a consultant. Registrar / Jr. Consultant / Associate Consultantsmust seek consent for any procedures that they intend to undertake.
- Registrar / Jr. Consultant / Associate Consultantshave no admitting rights to the hospital. All patients admitted must be underthe care of a consultant with admitting rights to the hospital.
- Toremain on the hospital premises whilst on duty. In the event of a Registrar /Jr. Consultant / Associate Consultants not attending for duty, the previousRegistrar / Jr. Consultant / Associate Consultants must remain until areliever is found ensuring continuous cover.
