About this role
Company Description AirBills is building a utility bill automation and cost optimisation platform for short-term rental and single-family rental property owners and managers. Utility billing is still a manual, messy and time-consuming process for many property operators. AirBills helps customers connect utility accounts, monitor bills, automate payments, track usage, identify savings opportunities and reduce billing friction across growing property portfolios. The platform connects with thousands of utility providers and supports customers who manage everything from a few homes to large rental portfolios. We are building for a real operational problem, with a product that sits at the intersection of SaaS, automation, payments, data, property operations and cost optimisation. We are growing the team and building a strong team of people who want to help make utility billing simpler, smarter and more reliable.
Role Description We are looking for a
Quality Assurance Automation Engineer to help AirBills ship faster while keeping the product reliable, accurate and trusted by customers. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys testing real user workflows, finding edge cases, improving automation coverage and working closely with engineering and product teams. You will help validate web applications, backend services, integrations, billing workflows, reports, alerts and customer-facing product journeys. We are open to candidates from QA automation, SDET, software testing, manual QA with automation exposure, API testing, implementation testing, product support engineering or adjacent technical backgrounds. You do not need to come from the utility billing or property technology industry. What matters most is your ability to understand product workflows, think carefully about failure points, write clear test cases, automate repeatable checks and communicate issues in a way that helps the team move faster.
What You’ll Work On
- Design, build and maintain automated tests for web applications, APIs and backend workflows
- Create clear test plans and test cases for product features, integrations and user journeys
- Perform manual exploratory testing where automation is not yet available or practical
- Test billing-related workflows, account-linking flows, reporting dashboards, alerts and operational edge cases
- Identify, document and communicate bugs with clear reproduction steps and expected behaviour
- Work with engineers to improve test coverage, release confidence and product reliability
- Support regression testing, release validation and quality checks before production releases
- Help improve QA processes, testing standards and automation practices as the product scales
- Contribute to CI/CD testing workflows and make testing more repeatable over time
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in QA, software testing, QA automation, SDET, product testing or a similar role
- Hands-on exposure to automated testing for web applications, APIs or product workflows
- Experience with tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Jest, Postman or similar testing frameworks
- Ability to write, maintain and review structured test cases, including positive, negative, regression and edge-case scenarios
- Strong manual testing fundamentals and the ability to test complex user flows thoughtfully
- Comfort working with engineering, product and support teams in a remote environment
- Strong bug reporting, troubleshooting and written communication skills
- Good attention to detail and ownership of release quality
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities and follow through on testing commitments
Good to Have
- Experience testing SaaS, B2B platforms, fintech, proptech, payments, billing, workflow automation or operational software
- API testing experience using Postman or similar tools
- Basic SQL knowledge for data validation and troubleshooting
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with Git, Jira, Linear, GitHub Issues or similar development tools
- Experience working with distributed or US-based teams
- Exposure to usage tracking, billing workflows, account integrations, dashboards or alerting systems
Who Should Apply You should apply if you have worked in QA automation, manual QA with automation exposure, SDET, API testing, implementation testing, product testing, technical support engineering or adjacent roles where you were responsible for validating software quality. We are especially interested in people who can combine structured QA thinking with practical product judgment. You should be comfortable asking, “What could break here?”, “What would confuse the user?”, and “How do we catch this before the customer does?” We know strong candidates may not match every point listed above. If this role feels close to your experience and you are excited about the work, we encourage you to apply.
Compensation USD $85,000–$130,000 (Fixed+ESOPs) annual equivalent, depending on experience, seniority and engagement model. For contract arrangements, equivalent hourly compensation may apply.
