QA Automation Engineer (Test Engineer)

Experience : 2–4 years in test automation / SDET roles

Location : Remote, India

Working hours : IST shift, 10:00 am–7:00 pm IST (includes a daily 3hour overlap with the Netherlands)

Reports to : Co-founder (Netherlands-based)

The role

You will be the person who decides how quality works here. There is no existing QA function, test framework or process to inherit — you will design it, build it and run it. This is a hands-on engineering role, not manual QA. You will write code every day: unit and integration tests alongside the developers, end-to-end suites across the product, and load and performance tests that prove the platform holds up on customer hardware. Because customers run our platform in environments we cannot reach once it ships, every release has to be right before it leaves the building.

What You'll Do

Test automation and strategy

• Design and own the overall test strategy and the test pyramid across backend, frontend and deployment layers.
• Build and maintain a scalable automation framework from scratch, chosen to fit the stack and the team's size.
• Write end-to-end tests for core user journeys across the UI and APIs.
  
  

Unit and integration testing

• Write unit and integration tests directly in the codebase alongside the backend and frontend engineers.
• Raise coverage on critical paths and help the developers adopt testable patterns and a test-first habit.
• Build API and service-level integration tests, including contract tests between components.
  
  

Load and performance testing

• Design and run load, stress, soak and spike tests for APIs and AI inference/serving workloads.
• Establish performance baselines (latency, throughput, resource use) and catch regressions before release.
• Profile bottlenecks with the engineers and turn findings into concrete fixes and sizing guidance for customers.
  
  

CI/CD and release quality

• Wire all test suites into CI/CD so every change is validated automatically.
• Own release sign-off, including validation of installs and upgrades on Kubernetes and in fully air-gapped environments.
• Track defects, flaky tests and quality metrics, and report them clearly to the cofounder.
  
  

What You'll Bring

• 2–4 years in test automation, SDET or QA engineering roles, with automation as your main job rather than a side task.
• Strong coding skills in Python and/or TypeScript/JavaScript you are comfortable reading and contributing to production code.
• Hands-on experience building an automation framework, not only maintaining one.
• End-to-end UI automation with Playwright, Cypress or Selenium.
• API testing experience with REST (and ideally gRPC), using tools such as Pytest, REST Assured, Postman/Newman or similar.
• Unit and integration testing in the developers' own frameworks (e.g. Pytest, Jest, Vitest, JUnit) and mocking/test-double patterns.
• Load and performance testing with k6, Locust, JMeter or Gatling — including designing scenarios, running them at scale and interpreting the results.
• Integrating test suites into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins or similar).
• Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes, enough to stand up environments and debug deployment-level failures.
• Ownership mindset: you have been the main or only QA person on a team before and are comfortable setting direction without a QA manager.
• Clear written and spoken English for daily async and live collaboration with a Netherlands-based co-founder.
  
  

Nice to have

• Testing AI/ML or LLM-based products: model-serving latency, GPU workloads, or evaluation of non-deterministic outputs.
• Experience with on-premises, private-cloud or air-gapped software delivery, including offline installs and upgrades.
• Helm, Kubernetes operators or infrastructure-as-code testing.
• Observability for performance work: Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry or similar.
• Security and compliance testing awareness (e.g. OWASP, SAST/DAST) for regulated-industry customers.
• Prior work at an early-stage or bootstrapped startup, or with enterprise B2B customers.
  
  

How You'll Work And What Success Looks Like

You will work remotely on an IST shift of 10:00 am–7:00 pm, which includes a daily 3-hour live overlap with the co-founder in the Netherlands.

• First 30 days: learn the platform end to end, map the riskiest areas, and agree a test strategy and tool choices with the team.
• By 60 days: automation framework live in CI, core API and end-to-end journeys covered, and a first performance baseline published.
• By 90 days: load and performance testing runs regularly, releases go through a defined sign-off including air-gapped install validation, and developers write tests as part of their normal workflow.
