About this role
Python API & AWS Cloud Engineer
Job Summary Applix is hiring a
Python API & AWS Cloud Engineer for a client project focused on developing, modernizing, and migrating Python-based APIs to AWS. This role requires a strong hands-on Python backend engineer who can understand existing API code, debug and improve it, work with relational databases, and help migrate applications and services to AWS. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working directly with production code, REST APIs, database queries, security issues, performance bottlenecks, and cloud deployment patterns. This is not primarily a data engineering or dashboarding role. Strong Python application development experience is the most important requirement.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, debug, and maintain Python-based APIs and backend services.
- Review existing Python code and identify issues related to security, performance, scalability, validation, error handling, and maintainability.
- Build and enhance RESTful APIs using frameworks such as Flask, FastAPI, or Django REST Framework.
- Work with PostgreSQL or MySQL databases, including SQL queries, schema understanding, indexing, joins, views, stored logic, and query optimization.
- Support migration of existing Python APIs and backend services to AWS.
- Deploy and manage cloud-native applications using AWS services such as Lambda, EC2, ECS/Fargate, API Gateway, RDS/Aurora, S3, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, and Secrets Manager.
- Integrate Python applications with Salesforce or other enterprise systems using APIs.
- Troubleshoot production issues, analyze logs, fix defects, and improve reliability.
- Implement secure coding practices including environment variables, secrets management, authentication, authorization, input validation, and proper exception handling.
- Optimize application performance by improving database access patterns, connection handling, background jobs, threading/asynchronous behavior, and API response times.
- Work closely with client technical teams to understand requirements and deliver reliable backend solutions.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong hands-on Python programming experience.
- Practical experience building APIs using Flask, FastAPI, or Django REST Framework.
- Good understanding of REST API design, request/response handling, authentication, authorization, status codes, payload validation, and error handling.
- Strong working knowledge of PostgreSQL or MySQL.
- Ability to write and debug SQL queries, joins, aggregations, views, and performance-related database logic.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, EC2, ECS/Fargate, RDS/Aurora, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, Secrets Manager, EventBridge, SQS, and SNS.
- Experience migrating or deploying Python applications to AWS.
- Good understanding of application security, including secrets management, token handling, SQL injection prevention, and secure API design.
- Experience reviewing existing code and identifying production-readiness issues.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced client-facing environment.
Good to Have
- Experience with Salesforce APIs, Salesforce Data Cloud, or CRM integrations.
- Experience with Docker and containerized deployments.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with ETL or data pipeline work is a plus, but not a substitute for strong Python API experience.
- Exposure to Snowflake, Redshift, or other cloud data platforms.
What We Are Specifically Looking For? We are looking for someone who is strong in Python backend development and can quickly understand an existing API codebase, fix issues, and migrate it to AWS. The candidate must be comfortable with Python code-level discussions, API design, relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, and AWS deployment. AWS knowledge is important, but strong Python capability is the primary selection criterion.
