Purchase Manager

Job Summary

An experienced and result-oriented candidate to manage the sourcing and procurement of pharmaceutical excipients. The candidate should have good knowledge of excipient suppliers, vendor development, price negotiation, procurement planning, and quality and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Excipients Sourcing: Identify, evaluate, and develop reliable suppliers and manufacturers of pharmaceutical excipients.
• Vendor Development: Build and maintain a strong supplier network across India, with a focus on quality, competitive pricing, and timely delivery.
• Price Negotiation: Negotiate prices, payment terms, credit periods, and delivery schedules to achieve cost optimization.
• Procurement Planning: Coordinate with production, R&D, QA, QC, and stores departments to ensure uninterrupted availability of materials.
• Supplier Qualification: Coordinate vendor audits, supplier approvals, documentation, and qualification in line with company quality standards.
• Quality & Compliance: Ensure excipients comply with applicable pharmacopoeial and regulatory requirements, such as IP, USP, BP, and relevant GMP standards, as applicable.
• Purchase Order Management: Prepare and release purchase orders, track deliveries, and follow up on pending supplies.
• Market Intelligence: Monitor market prices, supplier capacity, lead times, and availability of critical excipients.
• Cost Saving: Identify alternate sources, develop cost-effective procurement strategies, and maintain savings records.
• Documentation: Maintain purchase records, supplier databases, quotations, contracts, and procurement reports.
• Inventory Coordination: Monitor stock levels and coordinate with planning and stores teams to avoid shortages and excess inventory.
• Supplier Performance: Track vendor performance in terms of quality, pricing, service, and on-time delivery.

Candidate Requirements

• Graduate or postgraduate in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 4–5 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical purchase and sourcing, preferably with a strong focus on excipients procurement.
• Good knowledge of pharmaceutical excipients, their applications, specifications, and approved supplier networks.
• Experience in vendor identification, price negotiation, supplier development, and purchase order management.
• Familiarity with pharmaceutical quality documentation and supplier qualification processes.
• Good communication, analytical, negotiation, and coordination skills.
• Working knowledge of MS office and SAP procurement modules will be preferred.

• Candidates currently working with pharmaceutical manufacturing companies, formulation plants, excipient distributors, or pharmaceutical procurement organizations.
• Preference for candidates based in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi/NCR, and Rajasthan
