Purchase Manager

Job Summary

An experienced and proactive candidate to manage the sourcing and procurement of pharmaceutical packaging materials for formulation products. The candidate should have hands-on experience in vendor development, price negotiation, packaging material procurement, supplier coordination, and inventory planning, ensuring timely availability of quality packaging materials at competitive prices.

Key Responsibilities

• Packaging Material Sourcing: Identify, evaluate, and develop reliable suppliers for primary and secondary packaging materials used in pharmaceutical formulations.
• Vendor Development: Develop and maintain a strong supplier base for packaging materials, including printed and unprinted packaging components.
• Price Negotiation: Negotiate rates, payment terms, credit periods, and delivery schedules to achieve cost savings and favorable commercial terms.
• Procurement Planning: Coordinate with production, planning, QA, QC, regulatory affairs, and stores teams to ensure timely availability of packaging materials.
• Material Procurement: Manage sourcing and purchasing of packaging materials such as:
• Printed cartons, labels, leaflets, and inserts.
• Blister foils, PVC/PVDC films, and aluminium foils.
• HDPE, PET, and other pharmaceutical bottles and containers.
• Caps, closures, measuring cups, droppers, and other packaging components.
• Shippers, corrugated boxes, and other secondary packaging materials.
• Artwork & Specification Coordination: Coordinate with artwork, regulatory, QA, and marketing teams for approved artworks, material specifications, and timely execution of packaging material orders.
• Quality & Compliance: Ensure packaging materials meet approved specifications, quality standards, and applicable pharmaceutical regulatory requirements.
• Purchase Order Management: Prepare and release purchase orders, monitor order status, and follow up with suppliers to ensure timely deliveries.
• Cost Optimization: Identify alternate vendors, optimize procurement costs, and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality.
• Inventory Management: Monitor packaging material stock levels, lead times, and consumption trends to avoid stock-outs and excess inventory.
• Supplier Performance: Evaluate suppliers on quality, pricing, service, rejection rates, and on-time delivery.
• Documentation: Maintain vendor records, quotations, purchase orders, agreements, and procurement reports.

Candidate Requirements

• Graduate or postgraduate in Packaging, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Supply Chain Management, or a relevant discipline.
• 4–5 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical purchase and procurement, preferably in formulation packaging materials.
• Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical packaging materials, specifications, sourcing channels, and supplier networks.
• Experience in vendor development, commercial negotiations, purchase planning, and cost control.
• Understanding of packaging artwork approval, change control, and coordination with QA/Regulatory teams will be an advantage.
• Familiarity with SAP procurement modules and MS Office.
• Strong communication, analytical, negotiation, and coordination skills.

Preferred Candidate Profile

• Candidates currently working with pharmaceutical formulation manufacturers.
• Experience in sourcing printed packaging materials and coordinating with printing and packaging vendors.
• Preference for candidates based in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi/NCR, and Rajasthan.
