Purchase Manager

Role & responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Purchase Manager to manage procurement of capital equipment, steel bars, castings, forgings, bearings, and foundry raw materials. The candidate will be responsible for strategic sourcing, supplier development, commercial negotiations, cost optimization, purchase planning, and ensuring timely availability of materials and equipment as per technical and production requirements.

The role requires strong knowledge of engineering components, steel products, foundry materials, manufacturing processes, vendor capabilities, and commercial negotiations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Procurement & Sourcing

• Develop and execute procurement strategies for engineering and manufacturing requirements.
• Source and evaluate suppliers for capital equipment, castings, forgings, steel bars, bearings, and foundry raw materials.
• Identify alternate and cost-effective sources to reduce dependency on single suppliers.
• Conduct supplier audits and capability assessments in coordination with Quality and Engineering teams.
• Develop long-term supplier relationships and strategic sourcing partnerships.

2. Capital Equipment Procurement

• Handle procurement of machinery, production equipment, testing equipment, material-handling equipment, and other capital items.
• Float RFQs, obtain technical/commercial offers, prepare comparative statements, and negotiate with suppliers.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Production, Maintenance, and Finance teams for technical evaluation and commercial finalization.
• Negotiate equipment price, warranty, installation, commissioning, spares, AMC, payment terms, and delivery schedules.
• Monitor project timelines and ensure timely delivery and commissioning of capital equipment.

3. Castings & Forgings

• Procure ferrous/non-ferrous castings and forged components as per approved drawings, specifications, grades, and quality requirements.
• Develop and manage foundries and forging vendors with appropriate manufacturing capabilities.
• Understand basic casting and forging processes, material grades, heat treatment, machining requirements, and quality standards.
• Coordinate with Engineering and Quality teams regarding drawings, specifications, inspection requirements, and supplier development.
• Drive cost reduction through process improvement, localization, alternate suppliers, and volume negotiations.

4. Steel Bars & Engineering Materials

• Manage procurement of MS/Alloy Steel/Carbon Steel/Stainless Steel and other steel bars, rounds, flats, plates, and related engineering materials.
• Negotiate prices based on market conditions, steel indices, volume, specifications, and delivery requirements.
• Monitor steel market trends and identify opportunities for cost optimization.
• Ensure material specifications, grades, sizes, certifications, and quality requirements are met.
