Purchase Engineer

Role & responsibilities:

• Identify, evaluate, and develop vendors for raw materials, fabricated items, castings, forgings, machined parts, and bought-out equipment.
• Float enquiries, prepare comparative statements, and negotiate prices, delivery terms, and payment conditions.
• Finalize purchase orders according to technical specifications, drawings, and project requirements.
• Work closely with Engineering, QA/QC, and Production teams to understand material specifications and project schedules.
• Ensure purchased materials comply with applicable codes and standards (ASME, IS, ASTM, DIN, etc.).
• Coordination with inspection agencies and vendors for stage and final inspections.
• Maintain approved vendor list and evaluate vendor performance on cost, quality, and delivery.
• Resolve vendor-related issues including delays, quality deviations, and shortages.
• Develop alternate vendors to reduce dependency and risk.
• Achieve cost reduction through value engineering, alternate sourcing, and negotiations.
• Ensure procurement is within approved budgets and project cost targets.
• Monitor market trends for steel, alloys, and critical engineering materials.
• Track material delivery schedules and ensure timely availability at site/factory.
• Coordinate with stores and logistics for material receipt and inventory control.
• Maintain purchase records, MIS reports, and documentation according to ISO procedures.
• Follow company procurement policies and statutory requirements.
• Ensure proper documentation for audits and internal controls.
• Use SAP systems for procurement activities.
