Overview
Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization and an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, dedicated to improving the health of women and families in developing countries. For over 50 years, it has focused on providing high-quality, low-cost health care solutions, training health workers, and strengthening health systems.
Jhpiego has been working in India since the 1980s in close partnership with national and state governments. With deep technical expertise and strong on-the-ground execution, Jhpiego helps design, test, and scale practical solutions and innovations that fit real-world systems across 11 thematic domains (Maternal and Newborn Health, Reproductive Health, Nutrition, Immunization, Comprehensive Primary Health Care, Human Resources for Health, TB and Infectious Diseases, Global Health Security, Women's Cancers, Non-Communicable Diseases, Digital Health).
About The Program
The Cancer portfolio aims to strengthen India's response to the growing burden of lung cancer by supporting governments to design, implement and scale sustainable models of prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.
The portfolio currently supports programs across common cancers (breast, cervical, oral and lung cancers) and strengthens care provision across the continuum from generating awareness, screening, diagnostics to patient management. The program works closely with national and state governments, development partners, academia, professional bodies and the private sector to develop scalable models that contribute towards India's National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD).
About The Position
Program Officer will be based in Odisha and Jharkhand to support the day-to-day implementation and coordination of project activities across the demonstration districts. The initiative seeks to strengthen early detection, improve access to quality diagnosis and treatment, reduce lung cancer-related morbidity and mortality among occupationally exposed workers and surrounding communities, and generate evidence to inform policy integration within India's National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD).
The Program Officer will be responsible for coordinating field-level implementation in close collaboration with state and district health authorities, health facilities, community health workers, technical partners, and other key stakeholders. About
Jhpiego is a nonprofit global leader in the creation and delivery of transformative health care solutions for the developing world. In partnership with national governments, health experts and local communities, we build health providers’ skills, and develop systems that save lives now and guarantee healthier futures for women and their families. Our aim is revolutionizing health care for the planet’s most disadvantaged people.
Jhpiego, a Johns Hopkins University Affiliate, translates decades of program experience and in-depth technical knowledge into moments of care that can mean the difference between life and death for women and families. The moment a woman gives birth; the moment a midwife helps a newborn to breath; the moment a nurse screens for cervical cancer with a simple vinegar swab; the moment a community health worker tests a man for HIV and reports he is HIV free.
