Roles & Responsibilities -- HV Motors & MV Drives

Roles & Responsibilities for Production Planning - HVM

1. Production Planning & Shop Floor Management Responsibilities

• Prepare and execute production plans for stator, rotor, winding, assembly, VPI impregnation, and testing.
• Monitor production flow and remove bottlenecks.
• Ensure material availability (copper conductors, laminations, insulation kits, bearings, shafts, housings etc)

KPIs

• Production Plan & Adherence (%)
• On-Time Delivery (OTD %)
• Work-in-Progress (WIP) Levels
• Capacity Utilization (%)

1. Quality Control & Compliance Responsibilities

• Ensure motors meet electrical, mechanical, and insulation quality standards (IEC/IS/IEEE).
• Maintain First-Pass Yield (FPY) in winding, VPI, and testing.
• Lead RCA for failures (hot spots, Tan D & partial discharge issues, no-load test failures, vibration issues etc).

KPIs

• First Pass Yield (FPY %)
• Quality Defects (PPM)
• Customer NCRs per month
• Rework/Repair Hours per motor

1. Team Leadership & Skill Development Responsibilities

• Lead supervisors, operators, fitters, winders, and testing engineers.
• Implement skill matrix and certify operators in winding, brazing, assembly, and testing.
• Conduct periodic training on SOPs, safety, and best practices.

KPIs

• Skill Matrix Coverage (%)
• Operator Certification Rate (%)
• Training Hours per Employee
• Employee Productivity per shift

1. Safety, Health & Environment (EHS) Responsibilities

• Enforce electrical safety during HV testing and handling of insulation materials.
• Ensure safe operation of ovens, VPI systems, cranes, and rotor balancing machines.
• Conduct daily safety briefings and periodic audits.

KPIs

• Zero Lost Time Injury (LTI)
• Safety Audit Compliance (%)
• Near-Miss Reporting Rate

1. Process Improvement & Lean Manufacturing Responsibilities

• Implement 5S, Kaizen, lean flow, and continuous improvement projects.
• Reduce cycle times in winding, assembly, VPI, and testing.
• Improve fixture designs, tooling, and process capability.

KPIs

• Productivity Improvement (%)
• Cycle Time Reduction (%)
• 5S Audit Score

1. Inventory, Cost & Resource Management Responsibilities

• Optimize usage of copper, insulation materials, laminations, varnish/resins.
• Control scrap levels in winding and machining operations.
• Track and reduce manufacturing cost per motor.

KPIs

• Inventory Turnover Ratio
• Scrap Rate (%)
• Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ %)
• Budget Adherence (%)

1. Cross-Functional Coordination Responsibilities

• Coordinate with engineering for design issues, special motors, or deviations.
• Support service team for field failure analysis and corrective actions.
• Align with supply chain, quality, and planning functions.

KPIs

• Engineering Change Implementation Lead Time
• Cross-functional Issue Closure
• Customer Complaint Closure Time

1. Equipment & Infrastructure Management Responsibilities

• Ensure availability and maintenance of:
• Core-building fixtures
• VPI plants & Curing ovens
• Assembly bays
• Dynamic balancing machine
• HV test benches
• Enforce preventive maintenance schedules.

KPIs

• Machine Uptime (%)
• PM Compliance (%)
• Breakdown Hours/month

1. Documentation, Traceability & Audits Responsibilities

• Maintain complete documentation: VPI cycle logs, test reports, traveler sheets, serial traceability.
• Ensure compliance during internal/external audits (ISO, customer audits).
• Maintain up-to-date SOPs and work instructions.

KPIs

• Documentation Accuracy (%)
• Audit NC (Non-conformity) Count
• SOP Compliance (%)
