About this role
Role & responsibilities
1. Production Planning & Execution
* Plan, schedule, and monitor daily, weekly, and monthly production activities based on customer orders and sales requirements.
* Ensure achievement of production targets, productivity, and scheduled dispatches.
* Monitor actual production against planned production and implement corrective actions for deviations.
* Coordinate with Sales, Quality, Maintenance, Stores, and Dispatch teams to ensure smooth workflow and timely delivery.
* Ensure efficient utilization of machinery, manpower, raw materials, and other resources.
2. Manufacturing Operations
* Manage and supervise slitting lines, Cut-to-Length (CTL) lines, notching presses, automatic/semi-automatic stacking tables, and transformer core-stacking/building operations.
* Ensure smooth material flow, minimum process interruptions, and effective production-line utilization.
* Monitor machine performance, production output, rejection rates, and downtime.
* Identify operational bottlenecks and implement solutions to improve production efficiency.
3. Quality Management & Continuous Improvement
* Ensure adherence to product specifications, customer requirements, and established quality standards.
* Prepare, review, and implement work instructions, method statements, and quality control plans in coordination with the Quality Department.
* Investigate production defects, process deviations, and customer complaints, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
* Drive continuous improvement through Kaizen, 5S, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kanban, Poka-Yoke, and other problem-solving techniques.
* Should be internal auditor for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and IATF 16949
4. Manpower & Team Management
* Allocate manpower according to production requirements and ensure effective shift-wise deployment.
* Lead, supervise, train, and develop production teams to achieve departmental objectives.
* Monitor employee productivity, discipline, skill development, and adherence to standard operating procedures.
* Resolve shop-floor operational issues and coordinate with relevant departments for timely corrective action.
5. Safety & Compliance
* Ensure compliance with factory safety procedures, PPE requirements, and applicable workplace safety regulations.
* Conduct routine shop-floor safety inspections and promote a safe working culture.
* Identify workplace hazards and implement preventive measures to minimize accidents and unsafe practices.
* Ensure proper implementation of 5S, housekeeping, and safety standards across production areas.
6. Cost Control & Inventory Management
* Monitor production costs, material consumption, scrap generation, and wastage.
* Implement cost-saving initiatives and energy-efficiency measures without compromising Safety & Quality.
* Coordinate with Stores and Purchase teams to ensure optimum inventory levels and material availability.
* Maintain production records, MIS reports, and performance data for management review.
7. Maintenance & Operational Excellence
* Coordinate with the Maintenance Department for preventive maintenance and breakdown resolution.
* Monitor equipment availability and minimize production losses caused by machine downtime.
* Analyse recurring breakdowns and production bottlenecks and implement improvement measures.
* Ensure proper maintenance of production equipment, utilities, and shop-floor facilities.
8. Reporting & Performance Monitoring
* Prepare and review daily, weekly, and monthly production reports.
* Analyse key performance indicators such as production achievement, productivity, rejection, scrap, downtime, and on-time delivery.
* Identify performance gaps, develop action plans, and report progress to management.
* Ensure proper documentation of production activities and compliance with internal procedures.
Required Technical Skills
* Strong hands-on experience in slitting lines and Cut-to-Length (CTL) operations.
* Knowledge of electrical steel (CRGO) processing, transformer core manufacturing, and sheet- metal processing is highly preferred.
* Knowledge of electrical steel processing, transformer core manufacturing, and sheet-metal processing is highly preferred.
* Familiarity with notching presses, stacking tables, and core-stacking/building operations.
* Good understanding of production planning, process control, material handling, and inventory management.
* Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, TPM, Six Sigma, QC tools, Poka-Yoke, and Kanban.
* Working knowledge of ERP systems and MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
* Understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and IATF 16949 standards.
* Knowledge of preventive maintenance coordination, shop-floor safety, and quality management systems.
* Ability to analyse production data, prepare MIS reports, and implement corrective actions.
Preferred candidate profile
We are looking for an experienced and result-oriented Production Manager to oversee daily manufacturing operations, production planning, manpower management, quality, safety, and cost optimization. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in electrical steel processing, particularly transformer core manufacturing, slitting lines, Cut-to-Length (CTL) lines, and related sheet-metal processing operations.
The candidate will be responsible for ensuring production targets, maintaining product quality, improving operational efficiency, optimizing resource utilization, and achieving on-time customer deliveries while adhering to safety and quality standards.
